I wonder how many other countries with plastic notes use the same, they have had them in the IOM for yonks and Australia, I am sure there are many more.

A veggie friend of mine first brought the Change petition to my attention and was very vocal about it until I point out that he lives in NZ and they've had notes make out of the same material since 1999.
hehe

I did chuckle when I read your comment..........

At an up market function, a veggie type was waffling on a bit. I interjected by suggesting that kids bought up as veggies should be taken into care as they were malnourished.

It seemed slow down the conversation a bit..............

Well I don't usually follow Vice as I find their reports often short on some key facts.

But this is probably relatively close to being with enough of a margin to still be less than one cow per year

Which I suspect would have been killed whether the notes contained tallow or not.

I've told a vegan about you two. Says you're both for the chop.

The petition was started by a Douglas Maw on the grounds of the use of tallow in said £5 notes. Tallow is also used in soap. Not that it matters to Mr. Maw. By the look of his Facebook profile photo, Mr. Maw does not wash himself.

Tallow is used in hundreds if not thousands of different ways / products......wonder what the next petition will be?

He says - "I understand old notes contain stuff as well - we can't do anything about what is in circulation - but the fact they are producing new ones is what really riles me,"

Does he think all old notes in circulation were made 50 years ago. The mint are still making old style £10, £20 and £50 notes to replace the ones worn out in only a few years probably on a weekly or even daily basis?

He should get in his bike, if it wasn't for the animal products in the tyres, he would put his running shoes on, if it wasn't for the animal products in the materials.

Right-on tts like this have always been around but unfortunately with the internet they have a soapbox to shout their idiot ideas from and sadly there are enough idiots in government who hear them and think they are the voice of the people.

I hope not; if your going to upset idiots, you may as well get as many at once as possible. Saves effort.

Probably not, but they could trim the edge off and make it kosher.
