I think people think they're nice cute cuddly things that just wanted to give the doggy a hug.

If they encountered one I reckon they'd think different.

fking love the reaction from the 'roo though.. like proper "WTF just happened?!" laugh
My mother's house is on the edge of a national park with no boundary fence, and the roos keep her lawn short.
Walking to her back door from the car at night, I stop and wait for the big bucks to reluctantly give way to me. I would definitely not want one to feel threatened by me - they can (and have) killed adult humans.

Their technique is to hug the victim, lean back supported by their tail, and eviscerate with one kick of the hind leg.

Australia - if it moves, it's probably lethal*.

  • Except for some of the sheep.

The human race really does need wiping out and starting over if there are people out there who think this guy did wrong. He did not torture it, kill it, do anything other than exhibit the normal behaviour of the animal. The box each other, that's what they do. Its not like this guy was out taking a stroll and decided to punch a small fluffy animal. It was going to kill his dog, so he stepped up. You average softie brit would have just stood back, perhaps tweeted about it then contacted their solicitor for some no win no fee type payout. I mean FFS the country goes bat sh*t crazy when some blokes dog chases a deer or two and wont come back.

We are doomed.

Honestly the DM comments have tried and convicted the bloke before giving him a chance to defend himself.

Bit of a kangaroo court really.

(sorry)

Yes, the roo dropped the dog and engaged him - if he backed off it would have probably gone for him.

The dude had his Ka Bar, could have easily brought that into play but didn't. I have no doubt someone had him covered too - given they were out hunting.

Did you miss the bit where the Roo came towards the bloke? You fight or run. You can't outrun a Roo, and in a straight fight it'd kill you.

Quick jab to the face for a stun, then get out of danger. He did the right thing even if it was risky.

It's being reported that Greig Tonkins is an elephant keeper at Taronga Western Plains Zoo in Dubbo, NSW and his employers are considering taking "apropriate action" against him.

I assume appropriate action is a handshake and 'bloody well done mate, did ya see the size of that thing, what a whopper' (said in an Aussie accent)

Did the DM coverage include this clip with full commentary?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FIRT7lf8byw

I mean, got to love the Aussie commentary but actually what the guy is saying seems spot on. You can see the Roo try and gut the dog with his hind claws.

Roos can be vicious. They're not the cute cuddly little knee high creatures. They're called Wallabies.

Seriously a storm in a tea cup. Roos gove each other much worse on a daily basis.

How can people get wound up by this!!! He was protecting his dog from almost certain death from what are really just dangerous pests.

The Roo wasn't killed, just left with a sore hooter.

Bloody brave of the man really, right on the button, good shot.

And on a more humorous note, it couldn't be more Australian!!!

I killed a roo in the outback about 2 years ago.

Brand spanking new RAV4 straight through it.Lucky I wasn't in a hatchback, I rekon it would have gone through the screen.

Then cooked the engine driving it home. $50 excess.

Mmm yeah not quite. There will no doubt be a series of meetings, scheduled for the middle of the day so lunch will need to be supplied, to discuss the victim impact statement and the guy will be laid off while investigations continue. Some other issue, like flying to Italy to choose a new coffee machine for the staff kitchen, will come up and the kangaroo punching guy will be forgotten about.

And the prequel - Skippy lays down some moves and brings out the bear hug (just shows that was one lucky dog with an even braver owner)

Only if it took place at Bathurst and the assailant launched a can of VB at the Roo.
