The male copper does look oddly 'sheepish/clueless' doesn't he?
All that said, why on earth didn't the guy just say "my name is x and I live here"?

When I was a fair bit younger, I was stopped by the police, very politely, just for driving my own car - a Range Rover at the time, since we're on PH. I was quite happy to give ID and the officer was almost apologetic, but I said (and genuinely meant it) that I'd rather they pull me over and make sure my car isn't stolen than allow it to be. Sometimes, people lose sight of the fact the police are just doing their job and sometimes you might be able to help by not wasting their time.

You've been watching too much TV. "Oppressors" my arse.

People with your attitude are the reason why the police end up with tasers in the first place. If people could wind their necks in a bit more, perhaps things like this wouldn't happen.
my "Attitude" ?

I believe in "Innocent until proven guilty"
I believe in being able to freely go about my business without risk of being tasers and assaulted just because i dont want to give my name
I believe that when the police get it wrong, the officers involve should face the courts, should be named and should have their faces put on public record.

Exactly how do you establish the bloke isn't the one wanted if he is evasive and tries to depart?

You are coming across as very free man on the land.

I thought when using force police were supposed to weigh up the risks of violenece and escape?

Oh I agree the guy should have just given his name ( but being old / white man I don't get stopped in the streets by the police very often) but would they have then said oh ok then and let him go on his way?

They just didn't seem, to me, to be very confident in their own skins as police officers

Hypothetical I know but could they not have asked the neighbour(guy filming) do you know who this man is?

I really don't know how to get through to you, you seem to demand that you are treated as though you live in some liberal utopia with rainbows and childrens smiles beaming from every street corner.

The police ultimately are just like you and I, treat them with respect and appreciation for their job and you will be treated the same. Adopt a tumblrina victim mentality and stamp your feet when someone in a uniform has the audacity to ask who you are and you are going to be met with suspicion at a bare minimum because guess what......all the 'real' criminals will act up protesting their innocence and stating their 'rights' in exactly the same way.

The way you post on here (this thread and others) suggests you have more chip than Harry Ramsden.

If you're even 10% like that in real life I would not bet against you getting tasered at some point!

Totally agree with you. Though we have to let our police do their job and if they suspect you of doing something (or being someone who has), then comply with their requests.

Now the grey comes in....there was no risk of being tasered/assaulted, until he got chippy/physical. What possible harm is there in answering the questions of a policeman?

Not long after I passed my test I was stopped regularly by the police. I could kind of understand why (it was often when driving late at night with a car full of friends - driving was preferred to drinking for a short amount of time), but either way I saw no issue in answering questions. Even blowing in the bag. I knew I'd done nothing wrong, but 5mins being compliant and proving it seemed a minor inconvenience.

My guess is, from the way you post, that you'd have gone all gangsta and started bleating about your rights...

Totally agree with you.

I'm not convinced they did anything fundamentally wrong here. Maybe the policewoman didn't use the taser properly...I don't know. Maybe there was preamble that would prove it was the police that unnecessarily escalated the situation. I don't know. But from what was on that video I wouldn't be punishing them.

Approaching people in the streets as they have to these days is not something I would relish. And I think we all need to be careful using too much hindsight when being judgemental.

"Helo mr Detective just a quick note,

I happened to see a man who fitted the description of Mr X ( the wanted Puppy Kicker )on Nickem St this morning,
However when I asked his name he refused to tell me so I let him go,

I hope this helps with your investigation. "

They risked blinding someone for refusing to give his name, when he wasn't required to?

If the officers had been equipped with body worn video, they would have the evidence to justify their conduct and clear themselves. Or incriminate themselves.

Two months later at an IPCC hearing.......

IPCC investigator to PC Dobbin........as you know PC Dobbin the gentleman who you let walk away after refusing to give you his name subsequently went up into his flat and murdered his wife and her pet tortoise with a knife he had just stolen from the local Ikea. The theft from Ikea was reported along with a description of the individual which was why you stopped the gentleman originally was it not?

PC Dobbin....yes, that is correct, according to the 2017 System Paranoia Free Man on the Land ACT I couldn't detain him once he said 'No, I've done nuffink'. I duly passed a hand written note to CID to investigate further.

IPCC investigator......quite right, quite right, good job Dobbin. We can't afford to see people's rights trampled! The complaint from the wife's family is dismissed, in fact I think we should actually discipline PC Dobbin here for angering the gentleman by asking such impertinent questions and clearly causing his wife's untimely demise.

Paper Trail leads to CID and their incompetence, they should have already profiled the puppy kicker and known that he was a violent threat leaving appropriate markers on the system for him to be closely monitored and arrested him themselves when a person matching his description was called in.

Does seem a little bit trigger happy from the officer but you watch it and think "Do people have to make every little interaction in life so difficult for themselves?".

Cowardly ? how so, im openly voicing how i feel about situations as i see them.

You seem to expect me to "go with the crowd" and cheer the police on no matter what because "their job is hard"... Doing THAT would be cowardly, and helps nobody.

Ill give praise where praise is due
ill make my voice heard when I see wrong in their actions
