The law is an ass.

Without going into too many details I know of someone boxed in by cop cars on their way to work and arrested by armed police after a tip off.

This persons house, vehicles and business premises was searched and a semi automatic hand gun with ammo, 2 pump action shot guns and a WW2 revolver found. The person who tipped the police off also gave a statement that they were aware that the semi auto had been put in someones mouth as threat. And there were 2 counts of assault alleged too.

The outcome? The accused had to wear a tag for 3 months and be indoors by 7 o'clock each night.

I doubt you'd say that to him in person.

A very good legal team who specialise in such matters and an incompetent investigating force are to thank for his freedom. I forgot to say in my first post that he also had to keep his nose clean for 18 months.

He was very lucky.

And the same heinous crime is about to be thrust upon legitimate (note not toting drug dealers or their customers) airgun owners...
Only in the land of the Barbarians north of Northumberland. The penalties are no where near as drastic either.

That piece of legislation is even more ludicrous than the rest of UK firearms law. It is actually now much easier to get a shotgun certificate in Scotland than an Air Weapon Certificate. You need not show any good reason for the former but you do for the latter.
Actually it will be classed as an absolute offence just like any firearms offence, not sure about penalties but if you have any kind of vetting for your profession your screwed.

The sentence seems rather lenient to me, but I appreciate we don't have the prison space to give adequate sentences to all criminals. For instance, a life sentence should be a guarantee of death in prison, rather than a few short years before release on licence.

Not everything makes the news. Bearing in mind my relationship with the man I probably shouldn't have mentioned it, and have no wish to put a spotlight on it. Its still an extremely sore point with the investigating force for one thing.

However I assure you I have no need to falsify stories of this nature, of which I have many.

I don't know if I'm thinking 14 years is too much or the amount of time you seem to do for far worse is too little but it did seem a long time assuming there's not something not being reported?
