Sex, scandal and death sell. Pop them all into one event and you have a monumental bonus.

It's twenty years since his last solo single number one. He'll be number one next week.

It's the best career move he's ever made.
How would his worst career move compare to your best?

Saddened to wake up to this news.

Older is one of my car CD's. A drive is in order to pay tribute I feel.

I think a lot of the mirth is due to (whilst being obviously talented) the way he sqaundered his money, life and was rather stupid.
It's easy to think 'couldn't you have done a bit better than that with what you had?'
The string of offences he's been had up for and even been inside too. Driving a car into a shop front, falling out of one on a motorway, usually high on class A, a string of recent failed hits, not much to brag about there.

I can't believe he's gone. Like Prince, it came as a shock and it's really no age at all.

Wow what a shame, 53 is no age. Seems like a lot of well liked celebs have snuffed it this year and many of them relatively young.

100 million albums and multiple music awards reflect his talent and the joy he brought to many. Not a bad life!

I saw the final Wham concert at Wembley - a great show and a great showman.

RIP George.

Here we go. Outpouring of grief from people who didn't even know him. Old stars appearing on the news saying how sad it is etc.

I'm sorry, but what makes me sad is kids being bombed and killed in places like Aleppo. Kids getting cancer and the like and dying before they even reach their teenage years.

People like GM have had years of life. Made decisions that have probably fked their health up in their later years.

Why is there an outpouring of grief? Because these people sang a few songs.

Things like this don't make me sad in the slightest. The collective grieving is even worse.

Oh well. He'll sell more records now.
I tend to agree with all of the above and have been known to cause a stir on PH by commenting on recreational grieving before now.... however what I see in this thread (so far) isn't an 'outpouring of grief' but mainly people expressing their surprise and making crude jokes. Your post sounds pretty bitter, if you don't care why go to the effort of making it...

Have to say though the BBC have gone OTT as always.

Never really a fan but rip George.

Yes, famous people die every year but 2016 does seem to have claimed a higher than average amount.

Wtf..? What's 2016's issue?

GM was one of the greatest writers/performers ever.

I've still got his 2012 live solo recording at the Paris Garner Opera House on my hard drive. What a show.
