eek Don't you dare say that about my tuono! laughbiggrin Nah I admit the gen2's looks aren't for everyone!

£7k gives you a lot of choice.

Street Triple R
Monster 1200
Streetfighter 848/1098
Tuono V4 APRC
GSX-S1000
MV Brutale 800

If the insurance agreed and I wasn't worried about doing any touring I'd be straight on a Tuono v4 APRC.

There's a new Street Triple with a 765cc (or thereabouts, depending on what you read) engine being launched next week.

I would be straight on the Tuono APRC, I've had one for 3 years and it's been super reliable. The engine noise is amazing, even with the standard exhaust. I would also look at a BMW s1000r ( the naked version). Very fast, smooth and full of electronics. BMW also give a 2 year warranty with used bikes.

TBH, I would test them all, the speed, monster, Tuono etc are all very different to an R-nine T. Spend a few weeks riding all the bikes and I'm sure you will gel with one particular machine.

I'm on my second Triumph (1050 Tiger, now 1215 Explorer) and I don't think Triumph have a bad looking bike in their range at the moment. That said, I do like the RnineT. And the Ducati Scrambler. And the Guzzi nakeds...

Are you after "new style" naked or "retro" naked? The Triumph dealer I use had an eight ball in, like this (it looked tons better in the flesh). I was sorely tempted, but it would have been madness for me to have two bikes at the moment.

My next door neighbour has the naked Suzuki GSX 1300 in the blue and white. Fantastic looking bike.

And I personally always liked the styling/look of the ahonda CB1300 in the cherry red/white.

You could get a new XSR900 for that sort of money

That's what I would do.

I have a BMW R9T. If you love the boxer engine, which I do, then it's a great bike with some shortcomings. If you're not really a fan of the boxer then forget it, the poor suspension and the generally poor BMW finish spoils what would be a fantastic bike.

The XSR900 or even the last XJR1300 would be top of my list right now. Ducati Diaval would be top if it wasn't for shockingly poor reliability and high maintenance cost but that's a lot more than £7k.

Id say that list is bang on. I had an MV Dragster 800 which is very similar. Loads of character although at around 9500-10000 for a 2nd hand one might be pushing there (RR model) but Brutale definitely

Speed Triple is a great bike with bags of mid range. The Street triple is more fun (I've ridden both) but lacks real go until your up the top end of the revs

As for the aprilia...its amazing, simply stunning and I wont accept speak down on it haha - but I do have one myself ;-)

Ride the beemer after your Tuono V4 and you'll come off feeling underwelmed. It did nothing for me other than go bloody fast and be really smooth

Went through almost identical process last year. My shortlist was:
Street Triple
Monster 821
Kawasaki z800
RnineT
Scrambler
Yamaha XSR900

I bought the Ducati in the end as it was big enough, special enough, handling was great and I always wanted a Monster since '93. I still go tothe garage to just look at it!
RnineT was lovely but a little small and expensive for me (I'm 6ft), Street Triple was a close second but just didnt look "special enough" even though it had the smoothest engine. May buy one of these next or may be a bobber as a second bike.

I have a mate who sold his KTM1290 as at high speeds it scared the st out of him.

With the cash he bought a brand new XSR900, fitted a Akra and it spits flames and is a wheelie machine, he loves it!
