Has anybody had their new limited edition car painted the wrong colour by the factory? If so what was the outcome? Does the manufacturer have to honour the order and manufacture a car to your specification?

If its on the order as a specific problem, then yes, i'd expect them to supply the right car in the right colour as per the order.

We ordered our A45 in red, had it turned up in white, we'd have refused it end of.

Very rare for it to happen i'd have thought? Dealer trying to palm off another car onto you?

What was the car/colour?

If it's something German and grey, I can see how a mix up could occur, given the number of different shades of grey most things seem to be.

When we ordered our vw t5 we chose a dark grey, had a sheepish phonecall a couple of weeks before the due collection date saying they hd ordered a blck one by accident!

In the next breath they offered a load of extras so we just went for it

It is the car i ordered apart from the colour is wrong and they have messed up the finish of the roof. Yes dealer is trying to get me to have it. The problem is that the car is limited in number and all have been sold. Therefore no more can be built as they don't want to write this one off. So essentially they are telling me to take it or leave it. I think as they have had my substantial deposit for a year the are legally bound to build one to my spec, is this right?

No, i dont think so. There will be some sort of exclusion clause. You cant really expect the manufacturer to retool and build you a one off?

Who made the mistake by the way? The dealer when ordering or the manufacturer?

They don't know. Right bunch of amateurs. As the car is worth more now than the list price can i sue them for finical loss then?

This sort of thing happens all the time believe it or not.

Just recently, one of the local main dealers I do some work for supplied a brand new car to a customer who has been eagerly awaiting its arrival.

Customer drives off in new car, but 4 days later they get a call from him saying it has broken down. Long story short, he ordered a petrol, they supplied a diesel, and the customer didn't notice until he filled it with petrol days later and it promptly stopped running.

The AA then tore the front bumper off it whilst recovering it back to the dealership.

Dealership has now ordered the correct model of vehicle for the customer.

The wrongly ordered one will be repaired and put on the forecourt as a delivery miles/pre-reg model.

Is it limited in colour too? I.e is it only available in grey/black like the e46 csl? If so I'd have it,, especially if it were a keeper. Think of the future kudos, only m3 csl is phoenix yellow!
But all depends on the above.

Edited to add black!! Ooops

Ok, fair enough. Sounds more exotic than an R type.

You haven't actually said you don't like the colour, is it a deal breaker or do you just want the colour you ordered (and I'd have no problem with that if that's what you want).

What I would say, is if they've stopped production, they won't restart it jus put to make you one in the correct colour.

Unless it's a Zonda.

I'm having the same thought as VonSenger: is it in a colour that it wasn't meant to be available in ? I'd assume an error like that would have the collector types queuing up to buy it. Otherwise that's spectacularly bad luck. I'll definitely be watching this thread with close interest.

Hope you get sorted one way or another OP.

EDIT: Ah, just saw your post now. That's not so great then.

Golf Clubsport S would be my guess.

Can you not negotiate to take the car in that colour for an appropriate discount as compensation.

My guess is that the dealer has ordered the wrong colour. The factory generally builds whatever they are told to build with only very rare mistakes.

Dealer sales and sales admin staff, on the other hand, can tick a wrong box, transpose digits in a paint code, or even just write down the colour from the last order instead of what was supposed to go on this one. If what they put in is a valid option, the factory will accept the order and build it as ordered.

The manufacturer won't do anything and the dealer may well decide to do nothing beyond refund you, especially if the car is going to be easy to sell on.

If it's the car I think it is, at that price tag (150 examples?), there is no way I would be taking it if it wasn't the colour i'd ordered.

Is it the correct colour but the wrong shade?

No unfortunately not a Pagani. One day if i win the lotto! The colour is ok but when you waited 20 years to order one and its costing as much a average house you want it to be the way you ordered it to be.
