UKIP, following today's candidate announcement, now accounting for over 50% of all bets placed on Stoke. Points to a clear UKIP win.
I thought they were announcing on Saturday?

If I was in this constituency I wouldn't vote for Nutty Nuttall and that comes from someone who has voted Ukip for a number of years.
It should be a local candidate,in fact I'd prefer if ALL candidates for all local elections were local or ar least had a strong local connection.
I'm predicting Labout to hold

I can't believe they've put someone with a name like Tristram up here. It's like they WANT to loose.

He won though. It was a safe seat to parachute in anyone you needed a fast track to parliament.

His "parachuting" cost Labour 15% of the vote (53% down to 39%) and tore the Stoke Labour Party apart with the secretary of the Constituency Labour Party even standing against him in protest!

In fact Labour support has dropped massively in Stoke, from 66% of the vote in 1997 down to 38% now while UKIP have gone from only 3% in 2005 to 23% in 2015 and I don't see that rise being checked by "traditional" Labour voters who are swapping to UKIP.

It felt like an abuse to drop someone in with no connection to the area. An abuse of loyalty. Which they may be about to pay for.

Brave choice - if he doesn't get in, then he's finished as their leader.

Personally, I think the Tories could edge it, dependent entirely on how May fares with Trump this week.

The one leader who will be 'finished' if he doesn't win, is Corbyn.

If Ukip comes second, as in the GE, Nuttal will be far from finished.

Corbyn's troubles will be far, far worse if Labour loses this seat and the other by-election in Copeland.

I think Nutall could survive not getting in there. It's a big Labour majority to overturn for anyone.

Highly doubt the Tories will get it. It's a proper old Labour seat.

What surely would be tempting for the Tories is to look at the last election where they and UKIP were on about 7,000 votes each and Labour won with 12,000, then to stand back and let UKIP rip into Labour there.

If UKIP won Corbyn would be wounded, though probably still too pig headed to stand down and the tone would be set for Labour crumbling across the north of England, and being replaced by a pro Brexit socially conservative party with no real short or medium term ambitions to form a government.

Even if UKIP mopped up only half the Tory votes and made it a close race Corbyn would suffer.

Multiple losses didn't stop Farage.
There doesn't seem to be any viable alternatives to Nuttalls?

I'm not desperate, I'd be happy if UKIP won TBH as I've said above. I want Corbyn gone.

Just a shame UKIP picked such a loser as there new leader.

I had the misfortune of living in the Potteries for 6 months back in the day. It was horrendous. The ceramic industry was dying and it felt like the community was dying with it. I wasn't at all surprised that the Stokies voted so heavily for Leave - they clearly believe they haven't got much left to lose.

For the same reason, I think they will elect the Kipper at the by-election.
