Labour have run this by-election campaign as a referendum on the NHS - let's see if it works.

After keeping up to date with this on the DP...it's got a swinging chance...

The shift in prices over at Betfair during the past hour or so suggests that Labour are doing better than expected in the early counting.

There were favourable mutterings on QT, though I'm not sure if it was Stoke or Copeland.

I think that the Tories and UKIP will split the opposition vote allowing Labour to retain the seat.

It sounds like UKIP have bombed but Torys might win by a few hundred votes.

Lib Dems also doing well.

Remarkable; history made in Copeland. Terrible victory speech mind.

Jawknee and techno Dave were very confident of a comrade victory in both. Nein and big % loss for the win too.

Where next for Labour?

Unfortunately, for the Tories, it's a bit of a double-edged sword. They get a decisive win, but it only adds weight to the Labour arguments that Corbyn has to go, I'm sure the Tories would much rather he stayed !

But he has the mandate from the membership this is the way the membership want the party to follow. It's democratic..

Interesting that the Lib Dems pushed UKIP into 4th place. Not a great night for the UK Irrelevant Party!

Corbyn isn't going anywhere is he?

Even if he was left with almost no seats he would be hanging on in there insisting that he was the person the country wanted and needed.

He won't listen to anyone, he won't change anything, he is convinced he is the only person that can save the country.

I'm beginning to think he has slightly mental Dictator style tendancies.

If his support base will not revise their views which I'm confident they will not then labour is really really in trouble.
What next can they do?

McDonnnell blaming Mandelson and Blair? Really. So rather than gather he full feedback to understand the message you simply hop onto meaningless diversions. Face facts something is very wrong - pills have been backed up with ballot votes after going on the stomp.

I'll add again not once in 8 years of living where we do has a single labour candidate been round, countless Tory and a Kipper.

Split.

Leave Corbyn and his cohorts and set up "New Labour". Perhaps an "EU Unity" party (just call it "Unity" to avoid scaring the natives)....maybe convert a recently about to be established "institution" into a new party. Ready made leader who was never really a true Labour-ite anyway. Absorb Farron's rudderless crew. Start being the Farage-in-Reverse.

Not heard it yet, but she came across as a right balloon in the lead up to the election. She reminded me of David Brent/Michel Scott. biggrin
