Of course. I for one am looking forward to American insurance companies getting their hands on the NHS, and opening our doors to all the lovely hormone riddled meat.

Sounds better than Obama snubbing the UK by saying the French were his closest ally, then getting rid of the Churchill bust, then saying the Germans were his closest ally, then saying. . . .
Bit unbecoming that the UK is aparently moping around trying to be first on the list though.

How do they fit any hormones in when it's already full of antibiotics? wobble

Brexiteers were using ttip as an example of why we should leave the EU and we were going to get shafted etc by all these American companies, and are now going all gooey over the thought of a trade deal with trump that's somehow going to be better for the U.K. ?

Newsflash-a trade deal with a trumpian America will prioritise benefits for trump first, the republicans second, America third, American companies fourth etc etc and the uk will be right at the bottom of that list of priorities.

The worrying thing is-our government could be desperate enough politically and economically to sign us up to a trade deal if we leave without one from the EU that we accept anything put on the table regardless of whether it shafts us or not.

Yesterday was Trump's Inauguration.

This morning the sun rose as normal, and I was still here to see it.

I will wait to see what happens tomorrow.

I'm no Trumpist, but give the system a chance before all the doom-laden comments.... You never know, maybe things will work out OK!

Change the names and your second paragraph succinctly encompasses where we were in the EU -

'benefits for MEPs first, the EU second, Europe third, German companies fourth etc etc and the uk will be right at the bottom of that list of priorities'.

You're kidding?? eekeek

Next you'll be telling us Obama wasn't Muslim....

wink

People believe whatever fits in with their prejudices. You can show them evidence to the contrary until you're blue in the face but we have a generation of people who are happy to accept Breitbart, Infowars etc because that fits in with their views.

That's where those quaint and abstract notions of democracy and sovereignty so derided by some of the Remainers actually come in quite handy.

Whatever deal we reach will have to be put to parliament where it will be scrutinised and debated by MPs who are elected by us and will seek reelection in a few years time.

And it stops there.

They can't blame the French or the lobbying might of the German car industry. They can't say it's an inevitable consequence of the modern world or a price worth paying for all the environmental protection, cheap wine and nice holidays we get from being in a political union.

Our politicians negotiate it for the benefit of Britain and the people of Britain judge them on it.

And if it isn't working out in a few years then we can elect politicians who will either renegotiate a better deal or scrap it all together. Hopefully without the NUS claiming such a move is racist.

Exactly. His speech yesterday made it clear that any deal would be one sided.

It's quite remarkable the world didn't end. I wonder what the snowflake generation are going to be offended with today?

One-sided isn't the right word for it - it needs to clearly be good for the USA, and when he says that he means the working people that put him in the White House. So he will be wanting a deal that makes sure that whoever he's dealing with is not going to undercut US manufacturing or dump cheap tat on the , and that's not going to happen with the UK because employing a person here is more or less as expensive as employing someone in the US. That's the reason why NAFTA is so problematic for him.

A US-UK deal already offers the protection he's after - increased trade without worsening the prospects of workers - so asking for protection for the NHS and ensuring that any food imports match with UK regulations is not really a big ask.
