Obama didn't get rid of the Churchill bust - https://obamawhitehouse.archives.gov/blog/2012/07/... .
The point is it was removed from the Oval Office, the most prominent part of the White House. That was a demotion and an insult, full stop. Outside the "Treaty Room" indeed, with all of the other trinkets from nations of lesser relational stature.

Not enough room for two busts in the White House? That table looks like it could accommodate both.
There is room there for bust-o-plenty. The fact is he removed Churchill's to a lesser room down the hall as an insult. Obama has disdain for the British. Read his book, "Dreams of my Father". He hates Britain. Welcome back Sir Winston!

If he is intelligent as he likes to make out he would have known moving Winston Churchill's bust would be seen as a slight to an Nation but as it was the British Nation it was OK.

The exporter will take a major bath, no Brit is going to eat Hershey. Mind you British "chocolate" is only marginally better.
Try selling English chocolate in Belgium or France biggrin
It sells here in Germany, to be fair. Not the US version though, which is on par with the brown wax from Hershey's.

I am not sure I have ever had a more foul piece of chocolate than a Hershey's Kiss. You think you know bad chocolate?

Why would we get a better deal than the EU does?
Trump flat out refuses to do deals with trade blocks. That's why he cancelled TPP today.

His press secretary answered a direct question today during the first press conference proper post Trumps inauguration from someone from the EU, who asked what Trump will do on trade with the EU. The response was he wasn't interested in anything but bilateral deals with countries.

So that's all the EU block countries out of the picture.
The EU and US are the world's two biggest trading partners.

Trump "refusing to deal with trading blocks" will be as true as "Trump tearing up Obamacare" or "Mexico paying for the Wall". In other words it will be bu11st but sugar coated to make it easier for his acolytes to accept.
He will deal with the nations of the EU separately. If they want to still trade, they will have to accept that criteria. Trump is betting they will.
Mexico will pay for the wall, through withholding of aid, NAFTA re negotiations or dis allowance of currency flow from illegal immigrants here back to Mexico; $billion per year.
Obamacare will be drastically changed, already underway. Give it up CD, she lost.

Good point. Our biggest nation trading partner is Canada, for obvious reasons. Count the Bimmers and Mercs here, the Germans will be happy to deal outside the EU. Louis Vuitton, French wine, etc. Yep, the EU nations will deal individually.

Piece on R4 this morning interviewing someone from the US. Keen to export hormone injected US beef to the U.K. And chlorine soaked chickens. If the British public have sense there won't be much of a market for this stuff.

Also talk about how our cheese is so much better than US cheese (which it is). But Americans brought up on their cheese probably regard our stuff as even more dangerous to eat than we regard their meat...
Never overestimate the ability of the British shopper.... they already buy many a watery mess loosely called meat.

However, I have had some superb and sublime cuts over there.

I would personally take up arms to save that from being foisted upon you. smile
As to good meat; we have prairies full of grass-fed prime beef, you'll like it. Bison is becoming very available as well.

It's a good job I'm not the prez as if people can read so much into moving something I'd have great fun. There would be unicorns and miniature green tree frogs dotted all over the place instead of what was there before biggrin

I didnt have time to look at the actual products/services but trade between the US and each of the above is in the Billions..both ways

Greece

Turkey

Poland

Croatia

Europe is substantially more wealthy than Africa, South America, and Asia. It would seem (to me anyway) stupid for the US not to want to have a trade agreement with Europe. But if it doesn't, it doesn't.
They will but with each nation individually. If the EU won't allow that, let's see how long that lasts.

I dont think a trade deal with usa is that important, no one will make the shipping free, sending stuff halfway around the world is trade barier, thats why a deal with the eu is a lot better imo

The other countries, either individually or as a bloc, arent going to rollover and accept Trump's terms.
That remains to be seen. He never asks anyone to "roll over", just make a mutually beneficial deal.

Its against EU law for individual countries to do a trade deal with the USA. It has to be trade on WTO rules or no trade at all.

If Trump decides to change the WTO tariff regime they cant do anything about it other than via the EU, and that isn't going to happen as Trump wont deal with the EU.

On a commercial level shipping is cheap as chips, that's why it makes sense to buy from China, which is a fair distance away. wink

You appear to be posting from a different period in history. Shipping is peanuts. If not you had better inform China that their industrial strategy for export led growth is seriously flawed.

China seem to do it.

There was a great program on BBC4 last night about the diesel engine. The presenter Mark Evans was on board a huge container ship which had one of the world's most efficient diesel engines and carried 8500 20 ft containers. The shipping cost of typical product from China to Felixstowe was less than the cost of driving to the shop to pick it up.
