Managed to see this last night, split the same way as Full Metal Jacket, ie half in training/back story, other half in fighting.

Not as good as FMJ or SPR but i think the storming part is better than SPR, though it could be due to SFX being more advanced now than when SPR came out but you could 'feel' the despair

Worth a watch/see

Utterly terrible. Surprised it has managed such good reviews.

Skit's between romcom / Forrest gump vibe and some of the most ultra violent war scenes I've ever seen.

Just feels clumsy and ham-fisted to me.

Get's a bit romantic at times, but only for moments, and you feel that it must be overdone for artistic effect, but actually it seems that the hero (and the filmmakers) played down the actual details! (I won't provide spoilers).

My wife and I saw it yesterday and really enjoyed it.

Nothing like FMJ, really, except in the split.

The violence of the fighting is similar to that in Clint Eastwood's Far East campaign movies or The Pacific, no worse really.

Closer to the truth, too, it seems than the 'true story' that inspired SPR.

Brilliant.

So much so that some tts actually clapped at the end, which slightly marred the experience for me.

The war scenes are brutal, and claustrophobic even on the big screen. Didn't really overdo the romance in my opinion.

I didn't like the 'here's the words of the actual people bit that played before the credits. Could have been done with a photo if it had to be done at all, but it didn't add to the film either. Rarely do these scenes do anything for me.

Yes, it would be annoying, but I can understand why the film might make some respond like that.

Watched it last night, really enjoyed the brutality of the war scenes, and asuming there wasnt too much artistic license with the story then that chap was one hell of a hero.

Pfft. If it doesn't include the ayotolah of rock and rolla, a matchup and the swede it will only every be a vague imitation of the original.

i saw a preview of this on Monday, I can understand where people get the forest gump vibes his accent doesn't help. The main girl was gorgeous (those eyes). The fight scenes were very intense, after the initial 15 minutes war scene I realised id been sat there tensed up

Id give it a strong 6/10 - who would have thought vince Vaughn would suit a role in a film like this
