Finally got round to building my brothers PC this weekend and despite me saying this was overkill he wanted me to build something that would last him a while so the spec is the following:

Corsair 780T Case
Intel i7 6700k 4.0GHz
Asus Maximus VIII Hero Motherboard
Noctua Cooler
Corsair 850W PSU
Samsung M.2 256GB SSD
Samsung 1TB SSD
GTX 1070 GC

As expected it's fast but I want him to actually use it so want some good games and not just Football Manager so I'm after some recommendations. So far I'm thinking Rise of the Tomb Raider and Doom to start him off but I'm a bit stumped after that. I've already setup Steam for him.

this might be a handy thread for me. I've just bought:

HP 15-ba023na, AMD E Processor, 8Gb RAM, 1Tb Hard Drive, 15.6 inch Laptop with AMD R2 Graphics and Optional Microsoft Office 365 -

now this is primarily for domestic home stuff, storing photos etc. Did not buy for gaming at all. In fact I have virtually no time for gaming- or if I could even fire up my PS3 (not 4) the big telly is in use !!!

now it occurred to me I could maybe get the odd hour on this laptop and maybe a bit of gaming. Re-live my yoof. Is it even up to it ???

I wouldn't even know what games to find- I enjoyed and completed the GTA series and Fallout 2 and 3--------- beyond that really, that's it. Although I was ace on my acorn electron in 1984 at stuff. Elite dangerous- would this laptop run it. I was excellent at Elite in 84 !!!

with a bit of googling, I came across recommendations such as overwatch, the witness, firewatch, rimworld, skyrim ........ viable to play ? what do you even do these days, down load them ? I'm guessing you don't wander off and buy a disc ?

The Graphics part of the APU (CPU+GPU) in that laptop isn't too impressive (128 unified shader cores) though for much older games at lower resolutions you should be ok (Circa 2009 Left 4 Dead at 1280x1024 should be fine). So if you are chasing old games from your youth get on GOG (www.GOG.com)
For a guide - http://www.notebookcheck.net/AMD-E-Series-E2-7110-... has some links for gaming benchmarks.

Both the first reboot, and rise of the tomb raider are great games.

Difficult to say without giving us some pointers as the type he likes - no point me reeling of some RPG's if he prefers FPS!

Yep, with the sequel being a real step up from an already good game.

Has less death gore porn in it too.

Driving games, as it's pistonheads smile but ideally get him a wheel

Project Cars
Assetto Corsa
Dirt Rally
Euro Truck Simulator 2
American Truck Simulator

There are more that are older as well which are fun too...

I only play racing games so that's all I've got to share sorry...

Arma 3 will get the GFX working hard. Love the game and endlessly enjoyable due to the multitude of mods available.

That Arma3 shot is just amazing redface

Forza Horizon 3 also pushes computers pretty hard if they would like a more arcade racing game.

The Farcry's are also good for pushing computers, I've got 3 and the much more detailed 4 haven't played Primal though.

Assetto Corsa is worth the money, and loads of (free) mods are available if you're into that. The only problem is it's less of a game in the way its structured (series of challenges), Project Cars career is better structured although can get annoying.and I'm not a fan of the AI, not the worst but IMO Project Cars AI is more realistic. AC is more technically executed as a driving sim, Project Cars is a sim with good focus on immersion. I love both for different reasons.

It really is pretty awesome looking. Whether it be flying Jets about, landing a sniper shot from over 1000m away or swimming between islands and looking down in the water seeing turtles (and the odd shark!!)

My Favourite mod is still Battle Royale. 60 people with no gear jumping out of a Hercules and fighting to the death. hehe

I can run arma3 better than RotTR. That game just kills a machine, especially the Soviet Installation.
