I'm hearing a lot about 'weather bombs' on sky news. Is this a new meteorological term?

They seem to like these exciting weather terms, there's been a few new ones over the last year.

Wouldn't surprise me at all. You see "Gritting" signs everywhere but never any gritters. Thank you Tories.

Usual Tory bashing from MP.
I guess all the councils responsible for gritting are Tory controlled!

It should be MuppetPhantom, not MarshPhantom.
Councils don't grit motorways.

Here is a article about Number 10's policy on Motorway gritting.

It is actually blowing a hoolie here in Maidenhead, the forecast were right for once.

It really is quite bad, to the point where some unlucky people are going to suffer some damage.

Probably came from the same drivel-generator software app all the media outlets have downloaded.

'Thunder snow' was the chavology term of choice last month, disseminated through the garbage press and guaranteed to be incorporated into the English language within the month.

No the HA do.

Where do they get the salt from, and who pays for the salt that's used, it's the local authority.

The local authority could be controlled by different political parties, not just the Tory party.

Extremely strong winds in E Sussex.
Full refuse bins blown across the street & pedestrians struggling not to get blown into the roads.
I blame the BBC & Tony Blair. Not sure why.

It's actually quite an established term and relates to Explosive cyclogenesis.

All I took from that is that they have agreed with LAs not to grit the hard shoulder any more?

Well, it's blowing well here in NW Leicestershire. Five of my ridge tiles have made a break for freedom, taking out some roof tiles and some guttering on the way down. I think my builder must have stuck them on with cheese, the house is only six years old and none of the older surrounding houses have any damage. irked

As soon as the warning Doris was coming you should have been up there tying them down.
You should have known that would happen

There are multiple threads about the storm going at least one new the mods shut this morning.
Worth popping over to The lounge where it is being discussed at length and not a single £1 plastic garden chair has been pictured as pushed over.

They need to maintain the façade that weather is becoming more extreme (due to MMGW naturally).

A Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman gave some carefully thought out advice:

"Lots of roads in Derbyshire are closed due to fallen trees. Turn around and go another way."
