As an aside, has Sticky been banned? He set up a whingy post about moderation the other day, making out his usual victim status, and I've done nothing wrong stuff. The thread has been closed and he's either sulking or has been banned.
Come back Sticky, I miss you.

Funnily enough walking into the office one day with one of my neighbours, a native Swede who was in no way racist btw having adopted two children from India, was having a bit of a rant that morning about immigrants. I pointed out that I was invandrare, (an immigrant), to which he replied "Men du är en av oss." (But you are one of us.)
Guess I was one of the "good" immigrants, you know, speaking Swedish, observing the correct rules at julbord and so on.
That is the difference, put in a little effort to learn to communicate in the language spoken in the country, and try to adopt, at least a little tiny bit, you don't have to eat surströmming and listen to dansbandsmusik nonstop, but FFS at least try not to riot, shoot and torch cars every bloody night.Guess I was one of the "good" immigrants, you know, speaking Swedish, observing the correct rules at julbord and so on.

Yep - the "not like us" syndrome - the most primitive emotion of the human species.
It doesn't help anyone when you refuse to learn, and to communicate in the language spoken in the country you have chosen to live in, would you agree? It also doesn't help anyone to refuse to be a part of society the country you have chosen to live in, would you agree?

Something tells me the ones doing the rioting aren't trying to fit in. Not every English bloke wants to cause trouble at football tournaments, some people like to fight / riot cause trouble, most people just want to get on with life though and that includes immigrants.
Yes, true, but when the criminals run the show in the suburbs, ordinary people are too scared to do anything and police stay away most of the time, and politicians turn a blind eye and criticise everyone mentioning the issues, then what?Countdown said:

And yet you look at people like Finlandia, and 5ohmustang, the ones that have made an effort to embrace the culture of their new home, and realise they're the ones that are fitting in, getting along, integrating. So is making an effort to learn the customs, traditions, and possibly even language, of your new home, really such a bad thing?

I'm not saying it's a bad thing at all. I am questioning those who get upset, angry or annoyed by those who DON'T fit in - for whatever reason. Once you let those types of feelings take over how you view people, it's a slippy slope to the bottom.

Some of them are, some are not, it doesn't really matter at this stage anymore, what matters is, how do we stop this. Politicians attack those who dare speak up, police lack the manpower and political backup, meanwhile the problems just gets bigger and the number of trouble zones/no go zones grows.Eric Mc said:

You seem to assume it is always a matter of choice.
Do you have a point to make? Are you going to continue to skirt around it by answering questions with questions?I'd like to hear it, I'm interested.
For a start, children can often be prevented to by their families.
And we know there are plenty of examples of members of immigrant families, such as wives and daughters being barred from mixing with other cultures.
And, at end of the day, how do you, personally, decide what constitutes an integrated person or not?
Is a Welsh or Scottish or Irish person who refuses to speak "the language" (which I assume everyone means has to be English, "integrated or not?

If I'm a Syrian who has been granted refugee status in Sweden, do I have a choice as to where to live, or am i shipped off to one of the areas of high concentration of refugees/immigrants?
