I'm very, very pleased the BBC is banned. The bias has been running at disturbing levels for a good couple of years now, and they need to know it's not ok. Their anti-brexit agenda is appalling and only serves to damage this country. Balance the output, or be called out on it. Seems fair to me.

Does Trump REALLY think that blocking them from media assemblies is REALLY going to cause them to walk away crying to themselves?

It will just invigourate them into finding out more about what is going on in his administration.

Whether you think they are biased is absolutely missing the point. If you are a brave leader with conviction and have the courage of your convictions - you don't try to shut your opponents out or up - you say to them. "let me have your arguments and I will argue my side back with belief and strength".

Banning is a tool usually reserved for despots and a bullies.

Would you say the same thing if it was "your" news source banned by Obama/ Cameron/ Corbyn etc?

Same thing happened in the 1930's of course. If you don't like what people are saying, ban them.

He'd probably blame the BBC.

What are they teaching kids in school these days? Not much common sense it seems.

I Don't understand trump. He talks about freedom of speech, but papers want the same, so he bans them. A very communist way of dealing with things, ala animal farm.

I agree with a great deal of what others are saying, I just don't like the fact they accuse him of acting like a five year old when they do the same and can't accept some of us like his approach.

It's refreshingly anti-status quo.

How this pans out is unclear to me, but it's going to be quite a ride and I'm currently enjoying it.

And anyway, let's be honest, the guy could cure cancer, create world peace and end famine and someone would simply slag him off for wearing a crap tie the day he did.

Being "anti" is all well and good.

I'm waiting to hear what he is "pro" about.

Should we hold everyone to the same standards as the President of the USA? Or should perhaps the most powerful person in the world have some decorum at all times while speaking to the public/press?

Higher standards. Politicians aren't even close to being role models.

I have my doubts on that score.

Indeed, Trump wants to alienate those of intelligence - much like many dictators of the past. The term "intelligentsia" has long been used by those who wanted to deride those who actually had brains - and used them.

The popular alternative word today is of course "elite".

We shall see how all this pans out. As I said previously, Trumps main attacks have not been on those "enemies" that might actually harm or undermine the country, but those "enemies" that might actually harm or undermine him.
Are you suggesting that that the "elite" in the USA, UK , Europe or anywhere on the planet for that matter have ended up in positions of power solely due to their intelligence?

Trump makes big play that he ISN'T a politician.

So, what standards should we expect of him?

I said a few weeks ago, we will reap what we sow, we allowed the press for decades to not be taken to account for their lies and biased reporting.

What we are seeing now is the new President taking advantage of that, the press are not trusted by enough people to give them power to fight back against someone trying to shut down the parts of the press that don't go along with his actions.

This is our fault and the press as a wholes fault. It's going to be interesting to see how this develops.

There are now other ways to get messages across than through the traditional media, that's even more susceptible to lies and bias though, so lets see how this pans out.

I think the "press" will fight back with proper quality and investigative journalism. There will definitely be a "Watergate" moment in this administration's life - it may even have happened.

He has riled up the press and they will fight back.

Will enough public care if they do? There is no trust in them anymore. This isn't the Nixon era where such a scandal will matter as much.

everyone knows there is no unbiased news source available, people gravitate to the news source that will report any incident the way you want to perceive it.

Exactly.
Enough of Trump's supporters already don't give a damn about the press, if they did then given what was printed in the election campaign he'd never have been elected in a month of Sundays. The fact that Democrats will lap it up and shout more names and wear even more shocked expressions won't change a thing, after all it didn't win the election for Hillary. Trump's opponents really need to wake up and smell the next defeat, unless they change tack Trump will have an option on the next 4 years as well as the current 4.

I think a part of it is the mainstream media are in decline, and Trump's use of Twitter to communicate has made them even less relevant.
