Just on the previous point about the U.S healthcare system, it is complicated and simply put even if he wanted to totally repeal obamacare, he can't do so without swamping the administration for most of the term. He knew this before he took office.

It will be tackled when he has less bigger fish to fry.

i have a post somewhere written by an american during the election which explains the healthcare system and how it works, when i have more free time i will pass it on.
Good job he didn't say he was going to sort it out as soon as he took office.... oh.. wait...

Abolish health insurance companies, extend Medicare to cover everyone which will reduce premiums and get rid of the charge master at the same time. Make hospitals genuinely not for profit and fund research through grants, regulate prescription charges to prevent huge price hikes and gouging. Take premiums through the payroll system.

That statement sounds great out of context.

If we move it back to reality, where we have a corrupt set of MSM press outlets fully dedicated to a political establishment and institutions that profit off of the current neo-feudalistic politico-economic model, then things look rather different.
We have very different perceptions of "reality".

I am not so sure. You did partially acknowledge reality in your previous reply to me. Perhaps it is just a matter of time.
Scherzkeks, I agree that the media in the US is beyond a joke at the moment, and has been for a long while.

I disagree that this is just a one sided affair. both rep/dem sides of the media are terrible and equally at fault.

But how do you deal with this?
As the President of a country, saying "I am not going to talk to you" is ridiculous and childish.
There are other, decent and proper ways of dealing with media issues. A media watchdog that has power, is independent and well funded is the most obvious route.

Instead of just pointless point scoring in this thread, what would you do, and is Trump's current tactics working/going to work?

Straight out of a 1970s Kremlin press release.

But freefall!

Another major controversy in the Oval Office - woman puts feet on sofa. And because it was in the presence of black people it must be racist

Let's make some alternative facts:

Let's start here: http://www.worldtribune.com/unreported-1500-pedoph...

So 1500 paedophiles have been arrested since Trump took office. That's news - genuinely shocking, right? And the MSM hasn't reported this amazing achievement. That's news, too. (No doubt, because they're part of the pizzagate cover-up, etc, etc.) This website is full of 5oh's favourite sorts of stories. All of them with 'click here to like on Facebook' buttons. Very important that bit.

But the story originated here: https://townhall.com/columnists/lizcrokin/2017/02/...

First, the numbers cited don't add up to 1500; just 871. Hmmm...

Now, drill down into the biggest number: 474 arrested in LA alone. That's still a huge number of paedophiles, right? Perhaps LA is riddled with libtard abusers?

Except this most definitely WAS reported by the MSM: KTLA, ABC, LA Times, etc. OKay, but let's not loose site of Trump's fantastic results here: there were still 474 paedophiles arrested in LA alone.

But when you get to the actual numbers from the Sherrif's report, there are:
  • 142 males arrested on solicitation charges
  • 36 males arrested on suspicion of pimping
  • 28 commercially and sexually exploited children rescued
  • 27 adult victims rescued.
So... somehow the male sex-related arrests were... 178, with no number given for those targeting specifically children. And somehow we're missing 296 arrests of paedophiles in LA!

The explanation, of course, is that the 474 total arrests were for all sorts of misdemeanours and crimes detected in a huge anti-prostitution operation. Unpaid fines, skipping bail, etc.

So, 1500? Nope. Perhaps, if you squint a bit and the light's right, you might make a case from these figures that a maximum of around 220 paedophiles were arrested.

So, MSM ignored all of this. Nope. They reported the individual and local news stories.

So, the alternative fact - 1500 paedophiles arrested - was concocted by a Trump/Bannon mouthpiece, Liz Crokin (a big Trump fan, makes 5oh look like a snowflake.)

And the reason why all of this matters hugely for Trump: that little Facebook like button. The idea is that people who fall for these stories, whose buttons are so easily pressed, like these stories, and share them. So that they get targeted by Cambridge Analytics with personalised political ads in the future.

For a more full write-up on that read here: https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2017/feb/26/r... (and then quit Facebook)
This deserves a bump. You've only got to read the reactionary crap parroted on here by Trump apologists to see how effective this Fake News strategy has been.

Wake up sheeple!

To marginalize media sources that run misleading or false stories. No matter how much you might try to imply otherwise, multiple MSM sites ran and continue to run false or misleading stories.
So he invited Breitbart to his press briefings and he's waging a war on misleading and false news? bks. You're either completely blinkered or trolling.

His campaign success was based on misrepresented or entirely false facts carefully targeted at his base and a narrow margin of angry swing voters. He is just carrying this forward into his administration. Restricting the narrative is much harder if media who aren't overwhelmingly supportive of him have first hand access.

Not trolling. Watching you drown in propaganda is fun. Russian Agent Jill Stein was best so far, but I suspect it will be topped.

Never was, never will be. The 24-hour clickbait news cycle put the nail in the coffin.

It will just be corrupted and be no better than our current crop of hack "fact checkers." With the advent of the Internet we have entered a new era in information exchange. The only answer is to compare multiple sources and engage in critical thinking. Censorship is never the answer.

I would chuckle as it all burns. It's been fked for so long that there is no saving it. See Dark Ages America and related works. It must fall before it can be rebuilt. Trump is handling his personal situation well, because he is engaging in the tactics the MSM engages in. Forcing them out in the open. Fake news is not new, it was just cloaked in superficial seriousness, and sold to the populace using time tested tactics. Where Trump will ultimately take the country remains open to debate, but we have, for now, at the least, avoided a manufactured showdown with a nuclear superpower, so I am ok with watching what comes next.

One thing is for sure, wherever he is now, Eddy Bernays is most certainly getting a kick out of all of this.

US tourism starting to slide.

Signs of a "Trump slump".

Could be some cheap Summer hols available to the US in the next few weeks.

You mean just like sales of the Guardian - where that crap story is from - starting to slide?
Signs of a Guardian slump.

It's hardly surprising.

People are generally treat like st by US border staff when they attempt to visit the country and spend money under normal circumstances, ever mind after Trump has given them the green light to be even more surly and aggressive.

I honestly don't know why the US doesn't start a new advertising campaign aimed at overseas tourists that simply says "fk off. We don't want you to visit". At least it would be honest.

Did you read the article, they list their multiple sources which are from flight and holiday booking websites.

It doesn't look to me like FAKE NEWS.
