You mean just like sales of the Guardian - where that crap story is from - starting to slide?
Signs of a Guardian slump.

'Since you’re here …
The Guardian has got a small favour to ask.
More people are reading the Guardian than ever, but far fewer are paying for it.'

This is a superb example actually of how the Trump technique works on the weak-minded. The Guardian story here is factual, and mostly is simply quoting statistics from the likes of Kayak as to the numbers of specific USA based flights searched.

The Trump influenced mind, programmed with the mantra of ‘FAKE NEWS FAKE NEWS FAKE NEWS’ when it sees something negative about the dear leader goes into meltdown, and it becomes about the ‘failing newspaper’ instead of what is actually being said. It is a fascinating thing to see.

Staggering delusion isn't it. Didn't even bother to read the article before claiming it was fake just because of the secondary source. This is exactly how he won in the first place.

Absolutely fascinating as you say.

Any comments on his address to Congress last night?

By all accounts it has been well received.

Has the rocky ride of the past few weeks alerted him to the fact that he needed to change his tone?

Will the Real Donald Trump please stand up?

Yes, apparently very well received and a big change of style and tone.

Been listening to a few people discussing it on radio 4 and even his critics seemed impressed.

But can he keep it up?

They were saying beforehand that it would be a speech for all Americans with a message of unity.

At the same time he was going off about Obama and his people being the source of the leaks from the Whitehouse.

It seems they've got him partially under control. I doubt it will last long - his twitter finger will be getting itchy.

Where Trump will ultimately take the country remains open to debate, but we have, for now, at the least, avoided a manufactured showdown with a nuclear superpower, so I am ok with watching what comes next.
In case you missed it, in the last week or so Trump has :

Announced a 10% increase in the military budget.
Said that Strategic Arms limitations are unfair to the US.
Called for an upgrade to the US's nuclear arsenal.

So there's no "manufactured showdown", but a real threat of a new arms race, if he does what he says.
On the other hand, it's probably just more hot air and bluster from Trump.

I saw much of the Trump speech, it was much more ’normal’ as roundly predicted, just him calmly reading from an autocue. It seems weird to hear him denouncing hate crimes though, since an increase is surely to be expected from a lot the things he has said, and the encouragement of violence at his rallies when he was candidate,

I did get the feeling that the real Trump was frustrated inside himself somewhere. For now though, indeed, he seems to be under control. Someone has seemingly certainly had a word. To be fair, at times he seemed almost like a real President.

Trump did run a very unconventional campaign where the msm did most of his work for him without paying. All those outraged feminists and guffawing liberals were just what was needed to keep him in the press and build a voterbase of people who dislike liberals.

He is rather doing similar now- introduce a travel ban that would have had minimal effect on the states, disinvite a couple of msm companies to a press conference, etc and the press goes mental and he gets taken to court, occupying the msm for weeks. But with such a high level of histronics as background noise, why would his supporters take the time to care about his staffing decisions?

I remember the term "Outrage Fatigue" appearing during GWB's stint where wave after wave of wars, geneva-dodging prisons, waterboarding, anti terror legislation left many opponents of the govt struggling to get upset anymore at the next power grab or rights removal.

This seems similar except the effect is on supporters. For now. All they see is a bunch of whingers whinging because they lost, and it's all they will ever see.

Just reading the transcript on CNN (so probably made up and fake).

Interesting language and spin. What could be some good points but a lot of the same is worded a different way. Reads more like he was pre office.

very interesting. Hadn't realised it was only actually a 3% increase.

surely that should make some like 5oh etc fairly annoyed!

That article had an interesting quote from Bannon (2016) :
"We're going to war in the South China Sea in 5 to 10 years. There's no doubt about that".

But it's not like he's now on the National Security Council or anything...

I've yet to hear it or read it but everything I've read about it so far echoes that. He has not produced any headline grabbing tweets for a while (comparatively) now. Nor has he actively courted controversy. This sounds like it was a conventional presidential speech, with classic three-point cadence, delivering not particularly inflammatory rallying messages. Big steps towards appearing presidential; now he has to work on delivering the goods.

Can't shake the conclusion that Dubke, the new director of communications, is behind the seachange in tone. It started just as he arrived; not a coincidence IMO.

Van Jones:

"Because that thing you just saw him do, if he finds a way to do that over and over again, he's going to be there for eight years."

biggrin

He adjusts tone when he needs to. Not the first time we have seen it.

When was the last time he did it (genuine question)?

"Needs to" vs "is told to" remains an open question in my mind.

The manufactured showdown was over the Ukraine and Syria. The manufacturers have, however, run out of puff now that their candidate of choice lost the US election, and things are looking questionable for current leadership in many parts of the EU.

We even have congress critters talking truth now. http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2017-02-28/there-are...
