It is interesting that the REPUBLICAN Chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, Richard Burr, has stood up and publicly stated that they will not allow any interference from the White House in their investigations.

Increasingly, both Republican and Democratic Senators and Congressmen are seeing that the Trump Administration has no respect for and is engaged in open warfare against the democratic institutions of the nation.

They will not stand for that, no matter where their political affiliations may lie.
They might try, but they're up against an opponent who doesn't care about rules, principles, telling the truth etc. And unfortunately for the democratic institutions, the people who voted for him don't seem particularly concerned either.

I posted a quite from Fareed Zakaria earlier on. He said "Trump has bullstted all his life. He's won the election by bullstting. He's too late to tell him that bulshtting doesnt work".

That is going to be his modus operandi for the next 8 years.

And that is why, short of mounting a military coup and dismissing or locking up (or worse) all the Senators or Congressmen, he's going to achieve nothing.

The "Bannon Plan" was to neuter the effectiveness of the governmental institutions using various tactics - such as constant Presidential twitter messages which would be used to bully politicians into submission (a sort of "virtual pitch forks and torches" strategy).

So far, none of this is working - and it will continue to not work.

Interesting and deep analysis.

Who do you find more dangerous? Secret Russian agent Rand Paul, secret agent Devin Nunes, or secret agent Jill Stein?

I see he is continuing to redevelop the swamp in to a golf resort for his friends and family.

He has now appointed Ivanka as an official White House employee - Assistant to the President.

I expect she'll do a great job of telling her Dad where he is going wrong.
Although, somewhat counter-intuitively, that actually improves the ethics - by having an official role, she is now bound by various ethics rules which didn't apply when her post was unofficial.

It still stinks though.

I don't think they're dangerous - just stupid.

I wonder did they learn their espionage techniques from this chap -

You have to be over a certain age to know who this is.

When does Dark Lord Bannon instruct Trump's generals to commence with the coup, giving Putin ultimate control?

I wasn't implying such a thing would actually happen. I was jokingly commenting that it would take a coup to destroy the effectiveness of Congress and the Senate.

His attempts to undermine Congress have all fallen flat on their faces and will continue to do so - because he hasn't a clue.

All he has done since achieving office is make enemies. The truly dumb thing is that he has made enemies of the people who would normally have supported him. I have never seen such a display of sheer imbecilic behaviour by an American President.

The main point I was making was that the American system of government is bigger than any President. They control him - not the other way round.

The question imo is when they get rid of him (via impeachment...).

He is alienating republicans so they can't rely on him to win in 4 years (assuming the Dems manage to field someone palatable) so do they wait until after the mid term elections?

What impeachable offense has the president committed?

Bonus points for an answer free of Russian conspiracy theory.

I reckon the mid-terms will be an acid test, and then if the Dems recover some seats, the shizz will hit the fan.

Even worse, he is so unable to unite the Republicans that they are likely to get NOTHING through Congress over the next four years - despite having a working majority in the house. This would be a disaster for them.

Secondly, there will be mid term elections in two years time. It was fear of the impact of the repeal of Obamacare on core Republican voters in these mid term elections that torpedoed the amendment legislation a few weeks ago.

Presidential elections are only a minor part of the way democracy works in the US. On this side of the Atlantic we often fail to understand how deep rooted democratic processes are in the way the US work - from President all the way down to local Sheriffs.

We are an oligarchy, but thanks for the good PR.

Interesting read here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-39435786

Shows up that the investigation will likely move a little too slowly for the tastes of the "instant everything" generation.

No doubt scherzkeks will be along soon with some squirrels in the distance for us all to focus on instead. Perhaps he is a Trump-bot after all.

We could start with no relinquishing control of his businesses, profiting?

Eric Trump has inadvertently exposed the reality behind the Trump family rhetoric about keeping their personal financial interests separate from the presidency. In an interview with Forbes, he admits that Donald Trump will continue to have access to the financial books for the Trump Organization.

Eric Trump Told Forbes he will continue to give his father updates “on the bottom line, profitability reports and stuff like that,” and will do so “quarterly.” He adds, “My father and I are very close. I talk to him a lot. We’re pretty inseparable.”

The admission shows that the Trump family’s claims that they are keeping their interests separate continues to be a lie.
