Politico has an audio recording of Trump talking to club members at one of his golf clubs last November, the day before he conducted interviews there for prospective cabinet posts:

Narcissistic Man-baby said:
We’re doing a lot of interviews tomorrow — generals, dictators, we have everything. You may wanna come around. It’ll be fun. We’re really working tomorrow. We have meetings every 15, 20 minutes with different people that will form our government.

We’re going to be interviewing everybody — Treasury, we’re going to be interviewing Secretary of State. We have everybody coming in — if you want to come around, it’s going to be unbelievable … so you might want to come along.
Translation: "Look at me! I'm really important now!" No wonder he's happy to hold a natsec meeting in public at what he's now calling 'The Southern White House'.

Also - 'dictators'? The fk?

According to the times, it's 3m every time he visits Mar-a-Lago due to the security requirements, having to bring all the xray equipment, secret service patrols etc etc... Camp David, already set up with military on site, not to his tastes apparently...

I genuinely have absolutely no idea why the term 'liberal' is looked upon by some as an insult.

Being a 'liberal' is a good thing as far as I'm concerned.

I'm baffled as to why anyone would think otherwise, and would be grateful if someone could explain to me the problem with it.

In America, some people think that the description "liberal" equates to "Communist".

Despite the fact that "liberty" is a big part of the Constitution and they even have a bloody big statue named in its honour in New York.

As I mentioned earlier, some of them seem not to realise that "liberal" and Liberty" stem from the same root meaning.

It is interesting they way this was so polarised. You are one or the other. No in between.

Trump made a lot of mistakes, the wall for example. Political speak should have been "we will attempt to stop with various measures". Saying he will "build a wall", that painted him into a corner. The only way to manoeuvre out of this is build the wall or prevarication. Same for the stop on people coming in.

He needs to let go chasing ratings and get on with governing.

You are a minion of Satan yikes

More seriously they are specifically targeting Social Liberalism. Right wing Christian's in the US who believe the bible is the best basis for a social and moral value system. They think anything progressive = bad because not in the bible.

But what if Eric, he is right? Remember Harold Wilson was not liked by some in the civil service who were plotting against him.
Tinfoil hat nonsense; just because Harold was paranoid and had a chip on his shoulder doesn't make it true. The establishment fought so hard against him he only managed to be PM twice.

I think rhetoric is exactly what got him elected. The rhetoric built up a loyal fan base who inflated his already over inflated ego. But unfortunately it appears that he doesn't currently have the skill-set to be able to deliver the promises, and now has a lot of people wanting to embarrass him which is deflating his ego, and making him react in a very insecure way. He's too used to getting his own way, and having to be diplomatic is not in his repertoire. He looks totally out of his depth.

yes His speeches are like as slightly drunk, mad bloke doing a boring, ranty waffle in the pub. How long will it take until nobody is left to stick up for him?

If he's going to berate everyone in the press conferences, the next time he goes on one of his rants they should just walk out and leave him there.

Some words on the role of the press.

I doubt Trump could care less about President Theodore Roosevelt's opinion though.

The BIG trouble with that ideal is neither the Press, the Political Parties or the US Government (most offices of state) adhere to that advice very well do they.

I took a look, well before my time. But it is most interesting, if this sort of stuff is in the public domain, one can only goggle at what is in most of the iceberg.

I did know about that. But, guess what, the underlying faith in our own democratic system and an underlying wish not to see it usurped by a cabal, no matter how "patriotic" they thought they were, stopped it from happening.

And that should be what happens in the US too. Democracy must stand supreme over any individual - and that includes the President.
