I for one are happy they have a very good record of stopping them.
"MI5 has thwarted six attempts to carry out an attack in the last 12 months alone"

I can only hope this is a troll post.

It's a good job you're not trying to be funny or clever as you're not doing a terribly good job at present. The thread is about discussing Trump. People have differing views but it's pretty clear he and his administration are a total shambles and each day gives us something to laugh at him about even more.

What if the error wasn't the country but the date attributed...?

I was having this discussion with a couple of friends last night, friends who are vehemently anti-Trump. I'm not pro-Trump myself, but the level of hysteria against him does make me tend to try to look beyond the headlines and the rhetoric (possibly my contrarian nature!)...

So on this Sweden thing, do we all think Sweden is generally OK wrt its immigration policy? Forget "last night", if you've read anything about the country in the last 6-12mths, does it seem like an advert for loose immigration control? (Ignore Trump if you can, just think on it generically).

We also discussed his general immigration approach and NATO.

The biggest beef on immigration were the countries selected and that he hadn't also included countries he does business with. I noted that whilst I agree with the principle (of including more countries), Trump is not alone in his selective behaviour...so why is he being demonised on this one and no one else? Obama for example. Or our leaders. The generic idea of getting your act together rather than just carry on regardless was generally accepted as OK I think...

On NATO, it was apparently the mixed messages. There was much focus on the word "obsolete" that he uses/stressed? I put it to them that these things need to be taken in context. Obsolescence in the context of the vast majority of members not paying their way is, IMO, a perfectly justified statement - and as one of only 4 countries actually paying their dues we as a nation should be pissed off too (assuming we want defence of that sort).

In the context of everyone starting to pay their way, I don't see why it's unreasonable for the US to say they will stand by NATO.

So context is key and taking the two statements in isolation almost seems deliberately disingenuous...

The guy's been in role for less than a month. He is not politically trained (which is highly likely to be a reason why he was elected). In trying to do things differently, mistakes will be made (and no, I'm not talking push the button type!). Who knows, maybe he will deliver nothing at all. And if/when that happens, then justifiably criticise him. But a month in seems way too premature to be attracting the sort of vitriol he gets.

For me this will be a very interesting experiment. And for the UK, things are potentially looking a lot rosier than they did with his predecessor!

How is there record validated? Have they made available details of these thwarted attempts so they can be checked?

Do you think security services can be trusted at face value? If so I'm sure you'd have concerns about Trumpy as he's criticized them.

I'll not be sending you my Xmas DVD, then! Although you could wedge a door open with it I suppose.

It's great, isn't it?

Boring, stuffy, politicians, scratching backs, talking crap, all of whom were / are complained about no matter who they are / were or what they did and BOOM!...in comes Mr screw them, let's shake things up and point a few fingers etc.

He may turn out to be the worst President ever, time will tell, but he will always be remembered by so many as the best for many other reasons.

The same sort of accolade could be made for Capt. Edward Smith (distant relation). He was the best at what he did as well.

For being a total moron, yes, he will surpass any other. Even GWB looks like a professor compared to this moron. The funny thing is, he will achieve little.

I think you've got this all wrong old chap. People who don't like Trump, eg me, are amused at him, and some of his supporters on here. No need for tears, other than laughter. Fallacious comes to mind.

Read it and weep hehe
I think it's more of a case of a 70 year old man who has been moderately successful in a past job, then doing a brand new job (perhaps the toughest in the world) and wondering if he is up to it.

Which is a fairly sensible way to examine it I would say.

It's actually too early to tell whether the USA will be better off after his time in office of course. Distractions keep occuring though. As the GOP hierachy keeps saying, "keep on message". Which is their way of saying, "don't fan the flames by going verbal awol"

Which he does. And keeps doing. He needs to be button his lip, as my mum would say.

You'll be OK petal.
Do you think that legitimate concern can be passed off by such condescending comments?

Are you not concerned?

If not, why not?

I only have to look at your conversation with flunkytepidribina in the early pages of this volume to realise that - I haven't quite caught up yet because I hadn't posted in this thread yet and it fell off my radar but I'd got up to 18 or 19.

So you want this thread to be a high brow critique of Trump actions and policies both of which you can't influence or change - my point is the thread (when it's not bickering between individuals) provides me with a balance view from both pro and anti trump. This is also entertainment for me wink
Tepid!! How dare you!
So you didn't like tepid but you were fine with Flunky and Ribina?? biggrin

Because we have an erratic and unpredictable idiot within a few feet of the nuclear button (and some other items).

The more I hear him speak, the more worried I become.
