The thinking is that now the MSM can't just regurgitate press releases from the White House (since they're all bullst) they've had to go back to doing actual investigating and writing.

Subscriptions have soared as people have twigged that the fourth estate is the only bit of the establishment that is really willing to hold Trump in check.

Possibly. It is all about money.

Not convinced yet though. NYTimes was suffering, for example, and is now renting out 8 floors of its building to generate cash flow. And the numbers I have seen indicate that the traditional outlets are dying, hence the hysterical flood of propaganda. Hysterical in more than one sense of course.
