Here's a good position to take.

Antifa antics at international summits are appalling, but generally nobody has guns and nobody gets killed. Most of the people involved (not the hardcore) will grow up, get jobs and integrate fully into the societies that pay for them to live cushy student lives.

They are irrelevant to the discussion of the behaviour of far right militias and neo-nazis last weekend in Charlottesville. They did have guns. They meant to intimidate minorities. Some indulged in anti-semitic outbursts outside the synagogue. One used his car to kill someone. None of these people will grow out of their hatred because they don't have a naive hatred for the capitalist system; rather they hate other people because of who they are.

Stop trying to deflect attention or even justify the far right behaviour there by irrelevant references to antifa.

Trump is more like a symptomatic temporal pustular eruption arising from a chronic herpes viral infection which previous presidents have either been unable or unwilling to purge the US of.

You sound like you are quite experienced in such matters.

Hate to break this to you, but they are correct.

You cannot change the wording of an amendment to the constitution or remove it.

The way the USA constitution works if you wish to remove the legal position of a previous ammendment is you have to create a new amendment that repeals the previous amendment, the original amendment stays in place.

This is illustrated with the 18th and 21st amendments, where the 18th introduced prohibition of alcohol, the 21st repealed that and allowed alcohol again. The 18th is still on the statute books and at any time a new amendment could be introduced to repeal the 21st, making the 18th valid again.
So, in theory, you could repeal the 2nd amendment.
Indeed you could, you can repeal any part of the constitution if you have the backing in congress to write a new amendment.
Where will the tipping point be for the US. I already understand there is some movement to get it changed however I do not think I will see it in my lifetime. That would be a very brave political move at the moment with the impetus of a terrible event.

Back to the action men. Did they achieve anything?
I have a few friends and contacts in the USA from quite a variety of income and social groups, I lived in Atlanta for a while too, I don't see them ever repealing the 2nd amendment based on the people I know.

The USA as a society are so far removed from the UK mind set on a lot of things, what we find absurd they think is the norm (that works both ways).
The 2nd amendment is not the problem, gun control is. from the time of the Revolt at Cincinnati the NRA had managed to persuade many folks that the 2nd amendment provides for individual rights to own a gun, which is not necessarily the case.

2nd amendment said:
"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."
They're bad enough as individuals. Organised into militias (Charlottesville) they're f'kin terrifying.

Indeed; the sight of people, who are not part of any state-sanctioned body, in military-type uniforms, bearing assault rifles is seriously unnerving.

With semi-automatic assault rifles, being a marksman is pretty much optional in the "being dangerous" stakes.

Study what General Pershing of the United States did to terrorists when caught. There was no more Radical Islamic Terror for 35 years!
fking mouth breather.
And as you probably already know, its total and utter bks.

http://www.snopes.com/rumors/pershing.asp

Even Shephard Smith (the actual Thunderbird puppet who headlines Fox News evening show) could clearly not believe that the President Of The United States had posted something so utterly moronic in the wake of the Barcelona attack.

I can't even express how depressed I feel about the state of the world tonight. We are living in very dark times indeed.

Times have been far, far worse in the past!

Perhaps times now are not all that you wished for or envisaged?
