family holiday in August with 2 teenagers. have found a nice home in north LA to stay. Will do Disney and Universal, Griffith Park, Studio Tour, Santa Monica but looki g for recommendations for other places to go off the beaten track?

also looking for suggestions of places to eat - the sort of places you wouldn't choose when driving past but the locals know has the best food. already been recommended Pinks for Hotdogs, but thats all we have at the moment

anyone have any good experiences or suggestions?

I always eat at Lawrys Prime rib (basically super thick cut roast beef)

You could also eat at Matsuhisa which is the original Nobu before Robert De Niro scooped him up https://matsuhisabeverlyhills.com/

Trendy sort of place for breakfast etc https://urthcaffe.com/

Peterson Automotive Museum is Very good if you like cars.

The Observatory gives a great view of the city.

Matt...
May I suggest the Smokehouse in Burbank, look it up and it will become obvious why.
We had a delicious dinner there last week... very old school cool...

Bit off the beaten track... but worth a look, Peasant Wine Bar in Tarzana.. superb food.

A few of my favorites:

Blu-jam - the breakfasts are amazing, especially the Migas
http://www.blujamcafe.com

Little Dom's

Home Restaurant Los Feliz

Alcove Cafe

Loteria Grill

But worth seeking out many Mexican places in LA, great tacos everywhere

Would not have said Pinks myself, just standard hotdogs with a big queue. Go get some from the Wienerschnitzel chain, better and cheaper. One near Disney in Anaheim I think.

We had a good afternoon out at the LA Angels Baseball, which is pretty close to Disney. Baseball isn't to everyone's taste, it's slow paced, but I like to catch a game if I can when over in the States.

Santa Monica Pier and Venice Beach, whilst tourist traps, probably need to be done, as does the Hollywood Stars. I'd like to have had time to go for a hike in the hills around the Observatory or the Hollywood sign too...

Its a lot further a walk from the observatory to the hollywood sign than it looks, it took me just over 2 hours walk! (i may have taken a wrong turn or two....)
And if you go right to the top, you only see the rear of the sign!

Santa Monica beach/pier was very nice.

Even plod came to play wink
