The good old round pound coin will be abolished come October this year. I think its a shame that its being replaced but I suppose it to stop forgery, there must be a lot of fake £1 coins around. Theres a shop near me that has a giant coke bottle filled with pound coins bet they will be gutted.

Both coins will be accepted for a while, how will machines be able to accept both?

I know, right? To be honest, I might not miss the serried ranks of bending machines, each only able to accept one denomination of coin. I mean, it's not like anyone even uses the five pence ones.Perhaps in the distant future, machines will be able to accept multiple coins of differing value, and in that Nirvana, they may even be able to accept two different coins of the same value.

but then what about the lockers at my gym? they've got 100+ lockers that all accept £1 coins. not to mention any of the supermarkets that have trolleys that use £1 coins. WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO THEM??
It is causing havoc and costing a fortune. Retailers, businesses and vending machine suppliers are doing their nut. They just had to spend a wedge upgrading to the cr*ppy new plastic fiver. And now the new Pound coin. And soon after, the new plastic tenner. There are roughly 50m fake Pound coins in circulation. Some say it is costing £100m to upgrade all coin machines and machinery.
The new £1 coin arrives next month. The old one will cease in 8 months. Official website here:
