Some of the stitching under the top of the steering wheel on my e39 has come apart. Although I like the idea of getting it retrimmed that's a bit expensive at the moment. It's a late sport steering wheel the same as an E46 M3.

Anyone had a go at DIYing this? Looks like waxed polyester thread is the stuff to use?

Any links to diagrams explain the stitch pattern? I think its just a zigzag stitch in the middle I need to replace.

Plenty videos on youtube showing exactly how to cast-on, stitch and cast-off a leather steering wheel cover.

I've just replaced the leather trim on a Dodge steering wheel after not having done the job for nearly thirty years, but it is something you don't forget once you've mastered it. Very satisfying too once you've got the hang of it, and no harm done if you get it wrong - just take it out and start again.

One tip though for aged wheels that you are restitching is don't pull too tight on the loops you are stitching through as they may snap if they have worn thin.
