Glasgow Science Centre or Riverside Museum.

Both have interactive stuff for your lad and the Riverside has old cars and trains as a bonus.

You could easily kill a couple of hours in either

There is the Riverside Museum (the Glasgow Transport Museum, http://www.glasgowlife.org.uk/museums/riverside/Pa... It's not in the centre but you can get a bus out there or get the Subway from St Enoch to Partick and have a 10min walk over. The museum is free/donation.

There is the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum (http://www.glasgowlife.org.uk/museums/kelvingrove/Pages/default.aspx) in the West End. Again you can get a bus or get the Subway. The mueseum is free/donation.

There is no old town but in the West End there is Ashton Lane, just off Byres Road and round the corner from a Subway station (Hillhead). If you go to either the Transport museum or Kelvingrove then you are not too far from Byres road and Ashton Lane.

I can't comment on anywhere to eat but there are loads of places on Byres Road and Ashton Lane.

Thanks for the replies.

Are there any very scottish things to do?

It's not to kill time, but more to see scotland.

Get on a tour bus in George Square and that will give you a pretty indepth tour of the city. If budget allows get a black cab tour so they can stop and show you a few little extras.

The west end bars and restaurants are OK if not a little over priced for the quality.

If you're from somewhere without a subway get that. Jump off at Ibrox for the stadium, Kelvinhall for Kelvingrove Museum, Buchanan St for George Sq. Bear in mind there's nothing to see in George Sq.

Just as well I don't have kids, I've lived here 38 years and have already run out of ideas. If you want to bore him to death the cathedral and Provand's Lordship (the oldest house) are next to each other in High St. And the Tennent's brewery is round the corner.

After the Hunterian if you ask nicely(it's supposed to be by appointment as it's used for teaching but if you don't ask you don't get) you could get into the university anatomy museum and have a look at a truly impressive collection of dwarves, dead babies, fatty livers, willies and other macabre things preserved in jars. You could also kill half an hour wandering around the James Watt building as there are sectioned jet engines and a Rolls Royce Griffon in the public areas.
