Afternoon folks,

I've always dismissed the idea of electric shavers but I reckon I need to embrace them now. I cycle to work and get showered and changed when I arrive, invariably butchering my neck with a bic2 in the process if I leave sufficient time for a shave, that is.

Could anyone recommend a charge-up shaver? My father has always used a Philips but looking at some online reviews, the higher end ones don't seem to score too highly.

Willing to spend around one hundred quid for something that's going to last (although doesn't have to be that much).

Thanks!

Braun Series 3 are very good. No need to max out the budget - the "Best Seller" on Amazon is £70.

Had two Philips shavers, they both failed in the same way. Current Braun been going strong for 3 or 4 years. Would buy another.

I would say buy a cheap one and see if you get on with it first.

I cannot get on with foil shavers. They jam and pull my hairs out I may as well have bought an epilator. The rotary ones are better but hair needs to be no more than a days growth in length. I find they are to savage on my neck and leave me raw. 2 expensive razors wasted.

I haven't wet shaved in about 12 years now. I don't think I'll ever wet shave again.

I've been through a load of different electric shavers, from £150 jobbies to £15 things, and currently using a Philips OneBlade for 7 months or so now and I think it is excellent, especially at the price it is. Although the only issue is that it throws the shavings everywhere, which isn't a problem if you are getting changed or showered, but could be an issue if you are the sort that puts on a suit then electric shaves.

I personally found the expensive foil or rotary tyres don't agree with me. They tend to give me spots and sometimes a slight rash. Don't know why, but I think they just shave too close and also grind the stubble into a fine powder that ends up in your pores.

But yeah, give the OneBlade a try. I find it really good.

Edit to add: Bazza white's post above is also more on how I feel about foil/rotary shavers.

I just use a pair of Wahl hair clippers with no guard on them, the sort of thing you get at the barbers if you ask for a zero grade. Leaves a nice short stubble.

Agreed. Moved from wet to electric in January, found the Braun Series 3 on offer at Amazon for £49, really happy with it.

I recently bought a Braun 9 series to replace my 3series. The 3 was struggling with grey hairs under my chin, I bought a Oneblade to deal with those. The 9 is amazing, basically wipe it once over the skin and its done, however thick the hair is.

If I want a stubbly look i use my Oneblade, but it just doesn't give a close shave.

Remington XF8700 bought a year and a bit ago. Works well for me, have wet shaved once or twice only since.

Contrary to above I bought a Braun and find it absolutely useless! I've tried it 3 times and I cant get it to work at all.
Am I doing something wrong or does it depend on stubble type I wonder?

Having forgotten my razor on a trip abroad about 6 years ago, I bought a cheap, battery Braun razor on the ferry. It is brilliant!

I now have some 7dayshop rechargeables in it and it is still going strong; daily shave with no mess, batteries last about three months and it gives a nice close, smooth shave every time.

£19 well spent!

I bought one of the philips shavers with a self cleaning station about 1/2 price in the black Friday deals, it's excellent - had it over a year now.

Recently took the cutters out to give them a deep clean, no need, they were spotless.

Probably wouldn't pay full price for one (£300 odd), but at half price it's brilliant.

Panasonic ES-LV65 here. Use it in the shower every morning with 3 drops of Somersets shaving oil.

No snagging, no rash, no soreness and a beautifully smooth shave.

I've had 3 Philips shavers in the past and every single one of them died 4 months after the end of the warranty in the same way - they just suddenly stopped responding to the power button, despite having plenty of battery charge. Having switched to Panasonic, I can't believe how much better the shave quality is too.

Just bought a new head for my Phillips that I think is 3 years old. Not had any trouble with it at all but I do agree with the early point that they don't work as well if you let your stubble get too long. If I don't shave for a couple of days it seems to miss quite a few hairs so I have to tidy up with a blade.

+ another.

Got sick of having my bank account emptied by Gillette on a regular basis so I asked the PH massive for advice on electric shavers. Braun Series 3 was the suggestion. Still going strong after many years, paid for itself many times over (relative to Gillette blades), as close a shave as anyone needs, doesn't cause razor rash (which I've been prone to in the past) and the OH's dad now has one too based on our recommendation.

I prefer a stubble and have been through a bunch of different electric trimmers / shavers. Now use the Philips OneBlade and it's fantastic. Best thing by a mile!
