And the BBC are going into glorification overdrive. I didn't realise that being a terrorist was a "career" as they called it!

A murderer and a thug. I hope he suffered.

I don't get worked up about much but allowing gangsters positions of power has always been beyond me.

Mr McGuinness had big balls and showed that a leopard can change its spots. He was a major component in the NI peace process. He became good friends with Ian Paisley, one of the most bitter, twisted pot stirrers that ever lived. He even shook hands with the queen. He showed a generation of young nationalists who were smart enough to think for themselves that there is another way.

RIP

It could be argued that without people like him the Peace Process wouldn't have been required in the first place.

The problems with Ireland began many many years ago when England tried to claim it as their own, way before even when Mr McGuiness grandfather was just a dirty thought in his fathers mind.

I for one am glad for the good Friday agreement and the peace that has been maintained since then.
He won't be celebrated by many but at least there won't be masked men firing shots over his coffin. well I hope not.

Times have changed. Hopefully they will remain changed. That's the best I can say for him.

The British made this situation. It's all in the history books, and can't be denied.

Neither can the fact that murder was his first choice option to 'resolve' the situation. All those people who died resolved nothing and brought untold misery to many people for their entire lives.

I know he got it right later on but the Beeb are going on about him like he was some great hero. He was a murderer and 'manager of murdering' too.

And all this st about hin being a good man as he allowed the queen to shake his hand. Well, he can fk off. He should have been on his knees in front of her, thanking her for not having him shot on sight and begging for forgiveness.

Horrible, criminal, terrorist scum.

Yes. We were so much better off back in the good old days of the 1970's & 80's.

Hi life in a nutshell...
OK lads, lets kill lots of people.
OK lads...now lets down arms and make friends so we become the heros and get lots of money.

Anyone who writes 'RIP' in this thread needs to have a word with themselves. I wonder if they're ISIS sympathisers as well?

Indeed, it seems a long time ago that I went for my first proper job interview and was asked "should we talk to the IRA leadership to try and resolve the Northern Ireland situation?" It was virtually unthinkable at the time, yet since then the violence has almost been ended, McGuinness and Paisley became friends and NI has moved on for the better.

I agree with this. To get a different result, something had to change, and helped lead the his faction from violence to politics successfully.

It doesn't excuse what he did in the past, but he was able to look forward, and that should be respected.
