Tobias Ellwood MP was a Green jacket. He ran in the opposite direction to everyone else to try to save a life.

BBc 2 newsnight - Car hired from Enterprise in Birmingham 6 days ago...not sure how they would know this and if so surely they should have kept stum until police release this kind of info?
if it was Enterprise then there'll be a green "e" sticker on the boot. They'll also have the numberplate. A quick phone call to Enterprise would have provided some information before anyone twigged what was happening.
My real point I suppose is should the BBC be releasing this sort of info at this point in time?

Edited for accuracy.

Absolutely awful occurrence. I am always amazed though how the strife in the rest of the world is of little interest to many. Millions on the cusp of death elsewhere and barely a mention in the news.

Not that I want to take anything away from this situation. There will no doubt be changes ahead, sadly thy won't be the ones I'd hope for but nevertheless, hopefully they will make us as a nation safer.
The news is wall to wall coverage of death and despair abroad. If you don't see much of it, you're either not looking or choosing to ignore it. That the news focuses particularly on events that either directly affect or are in geographical proximity to its viewership shouldn't surprise, really.

Top police guy has confirmed there's now 5 dead, including the attacker, they think they know who he is but want it kept under wraps for the time being, and that we need to spare a thought for the Muslim community as they will be feeling anxious at the moment.

Some errors being made on the news channels today.
Missed this one, doing a Rod Stewart. Unfortunate for her as she was just indicating for them to cut the film!

Good. They need to do more to report from within.

It's quite easy to get into the mind of most terrorists though isn't it? They see innocent people (most likely family) die in the Middle East because of the actions of the west (drone strike or just destabilisation of a country) and someone then harnesses that anger and hatred to kill those in this country as retribution?
still peddling your anti British agenda then.
What on earth are you babbling on about ? FFS
I think he's on about the fact that last night you were honking on in the Mcguiness thread about the big bad British Empire, and then today, a few hours after people are murdered at the hands of terrorists you say 'it's quite easy to get into the mind of most terrorists though isn't it?' I think most people would disagree with you, and I think you'll also find that the vast majority of refugees from the Middle East hold no desire to attack their host countries. The fact that you see people being killed as 'retribution', as you put it says a lot.

As a serving police officer, thank you to those of you on here who have made supportive comments in praise of the police. I know we're not perfect but we're trying our best in a very difficult world, terrorism or otherwise.

The ambulance service also deserves our praise and support for diving in to help save people's lives even though they would have no idea if today's incident was the first of several and they could have been caught up in more danger.

Also, the public who stopped what they were doing to help injured strangers to the best of their abilities.

It's particularly sad for me personally to lose a colleague but the others who lost their lives today are just as much a loss as PC Palmer. May they all rest in peace.

One of the resident police officers on here has confirmed previously that there is a lot of cooperation from the Muslim community.

The bbc has footage of the women falling in to the river, it shows the car tearing along the pavement at speed, poor folks would not have stood a chance, truly horrific.
Seems bizarre the reluctance to officially name the killer, they have confirmed he is "known to police" so why not just get on with it? I have a feeling he should not have been wandering the streets.
Some of the pics are hard to look at, hope we don't wake to news of more loss of life, 4 is more than enough.
RIP to the innocent victims.

Sorry but I find it incredibly insensitive and distasteful to ask the public to spare a thought for an apparently anxious Muslim community. If they're anxious too bloody right. This is an Islamic problem and needs to be stopped by Muslims. The religion is tarred with blood and beyond salvage.

I'm pretty right of centre, but the issue isn't just confined to Islam as last night showed.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-northern-ireland-3935... An attempted bombing in the UK aimed at killing Police officers, planted by Christians.
If you're a law abiding, good and honest Muslim, the chances are you don't know your local Jihadi, and the local Jihadi certainly isn't going to shout about it. Yes, more needs to be done, but tarring a whole religion isn't the way to go about it as Tommy Robinson demonstrated this evening by acting like a buffoon whilst people were still being treated for their injuries.

But isn't easy to get into the mind of the terrorist though? He's not asking for sympathy, empathy or understanding, just that the reasons are fairly obvious, well researched and documented and, well, common sense. He's not [unless he wants to correct me] saying that he thinks it's good that people are getting killed due to retribution, he's saying that's their motivation. Agree or disagree, but that's it, or certainly a large proportion.

Explaining the motivation isn't giving excuse to the act.

I wish people would put the Sun down for 5 minutes and think.

A few meandering thoughts.

1) The MP who ran back to help the murdered officer - heroism.
2) People of all stripes trying to score cheap political points at this point in time (e.g. comment about increasing security instead of reviewing claims of fiddling expenses, pretty scummy)
3) I wouldn't consider this an organised attack or even a group attack. The phrase lone wolf is probably most apt. It was really low technology and possibly inspired by the recent ice addict in Melbourne.
4) I was surprised that the police in the immediate vicinity of Parliament didn't have guns. I guess I'm used to all police here being armed (but not often using the weapons) that I would have assumed it was the case at this location. Not a criticism. Just a comment.
