Currently looking at picking up my first Rolex for my 30th.
Anyone owned both and have any thoughts?

Starting to sway more towards fhe hulk after seeing it in reality. Studio pics really don't do it justice!
How does the ceramic wear and is it durable? I've seen a lot of kermits are quite beat now and the bezels are getting expensive from Rolex for new ones. I'm worried that the hulk may chip over time?

Have there been any changes to the hulks since introduction? I know there's a couple of versions of the Kermit with the engraving etc. I find them all as attractive as each other to be honest, but any versions more desirable than others? Slightly worried about bezel swaps on the Kermit too as I believe the papers were identical to the blacks?

Where should I be looking to pick one up safely with no worries of fakes? Guessing round about 5.5 is reasonable money and what I should be aiming for? Retail on the hulk is 6.6 but assuming they trade under after having a quick look around the euro market.

Thanks for any help and advice! smile

I would imagine a minter with box and papers from a good retailer would be nearer 7k?

Useful guide here on difference between dials on the 16610lv. There is usually a bit of a premium for the flat 4 bezels as they are rarer. It could be argued that those with rehaut are rarer too but i feel these ruin the look.

You need to try them on to see what you prefer as the shape of the watches are quite different. The 16610 is more elegant without the chunkier style case and crown guards. If it's going to be worn every day then the ceramic will wear better and the quality of the bracelet is a vast improvement over the 16610lv. I wear mine every day and after 10 years the bezel has a few nicks and scratches and the pearl is cracked but I love it and if I had only one in my collection that would be it.

With regard to values, 5.5k will get you a European watch with no box or papers. I would expect to pay closer to 7 for both and if you can better this then see it as a bonus.

A couple of permits have shifted on TZ recently for a tad under £7k. Prices have gone through the roof.

Picked up a Hulk up this week at list from an AD. Wait was about a month, but I've bought from them before.

They do get a reasonable amount in, but they shift very, very easily.

Try Dominic at www.hackettwatches.co.uk, he had a Hulk on the website recently, but think that particular one might already have been sold.

He's got one in but it's 7.4. How many people are paying over just to not wait a little while?! Mad. Makes sense for mega rare hard to get stuff but this is just pretty standard.

Ellroy, what do you think of yours?

Thanks for the advice so far guys! Gonna call WoS and see how long their lead time on one is.

Got it on now, lovely, the pictures do not do the lustre of the face justice.

Something nice to go alongside the BLNR. I was always a little conflicted as to which to get, so to be lucky enough to have both is a privilege.

Pics of the BLNR and Hulk next to each other please, to go along the others on the web but still nice to see some.
I'm thinking of getting the Hulk next, was originally thinking a birth year GMT or Sub but I'm not a fan of them really. Current aim is to try get one in December.

The Kermit is going to increase in cost quicker, the Hulk is better made, the kermit looks nicer and is better proportioned, the Hulk has a nicer dial.
I prefer the Kermit but both are lovely.
I have only worn my kermit a few times as I prefer a daytona.
Buy what makes YOU smile. Every other opinion is bks!
The kermit isnt just the bezel- its the dial and hands too, all are different to a regular sub. Get one with the hang tag and take it to rolex to verify if not sure.

I have both the 116610LV and the 16610LV (and the BLNR).
The 16610LV wears smaller and feels lighter on the wrist. It will be the one that increases in value the most (if watches continue to increase in value). The bracelet on older Rolexes is less well engineered than the modern ones and adjustment is less convenient. However, the lightness of the bracelet on the older designs does make it feel lighter on the wrist.
The 16610LV probably is the less obvious watch of the three as it has a black dial with just the green bezel. The Hulk is the one that stands out particularly on a sunny day as the dial bursts into life when the sun hits it.

Thanks for all the advice and help.

I went for the Hulk in the end! It seems the Kermit will be more valuable in the future but I want to wear it all the time and the ceramic and better strap made it more sensible for me to enjoy constantly. Plus I love the jazziness of the green face in reality. It really changes when you're out in the sun. A little bit more jazzy and right up my street. No point thinking about residuals if I want to keep it forever I don't think smile

Massive massive thanks to the couple of members who Emailed me with help of a hook up. I'm really glad to have dodged that stupid 2 year wait list or the possibility of paying overs!
Arrives June or July, just in time for my 30th birthday at the beginning of August. Excited as hell!
