The BBC are reporting his family as saying he been vaccinated due to the medication he was on for pneumonia.
Did you miss a 'not' out from that? Otherwise I'm not sure it makes sense...

As reported he has not received vaccination on account of his condition and other medication he is receiving.

A holiday in the bahamas instead of a few extra years existing in your care home... not the worst trade I’ve seen this week
Yep absolutely. Live like a lion, good innings anyway

I hope he's alright, but that sounds worrying.

Probably. Which may explain the problem it seems from what I have recently heard.

Pretty sure he had been living with his daughter and family the entire time, he wasn't locked away in a home.

I'm sure they rationalised the decision themselves at the time, but IMO it seems poor judgement given the vaccine rollout had just started and he would have been amongst the very first people to receive one.

edit: ie. the timeline could have been - Arrange holiday > Vaccines rolled out - it's ok, Barbados is safe, he can have it when we get back > Holiday > Return home > Arrange vaccination > Gets pneumonia, can't have it > Covid.

Questions need to be asked how he got it though, I mean he should be shielded and protected, but something has fallen down.

Barbados, lovely weather at Christmas
Bucket list trip
Free flight and probably treated very well whilst there
Who in their right mind would say no?

Best wishes and well done for saying pluck it, I'm going.

Don’t disagree with the logic although it is the media coverage that gets me - at the end of the day he and his family decided to go on the holiday which I am sure the media might miss out.

What he did was an amazing thing although again, media don’t get it quite right - the money raised didn’t go to the NHS, it went to the NHS charity fund. I know how some of that money was used and made my views known that I didn’t agree with how some of it was used.

For example, I and all other volunteers and staff of the ambulance service received a Christmas card funded by the NHS charity.

Fair play and best of luck to him.

Shielding when you’re 100? You may well die of old age before lockdown even ends. I sincerely hope he had an excellent time in Barbados, after all, it’s not like he hasn’t made a significant contribution to society.

Best wishes to him and his family.

Lived to 100, raced motorcycles, served his country, married someone 15 years his junior, raised two successful daughters, directed a medium sized concrete company, knighted by the Queen, raised £33 million, became the symbol of his generation and so far has managed to keep most of his marbles!

Whatever happens, he can't say he hasn't made the most of his time here!

fking old people should hurry up and die alone. Don't they know a pandemic is on?

Hopefully he enjoyed his holiday and makes a full recovery.

65 million people are in lockdown to give the best chance for people like him. He could at least do the decent thing and shield while the rest of us are suffering. And now his and the actions of his family have led to him clogging up a hospital bed...
Don’t bother. He’s a saint around here and all actions must be treated as infallible because something something war hero!

For what it’s worth, I agree. Poor judgment given that we keep being told that children are suffering to protect the elderly and the NHS. Young kids are being isolated from social contact but it’s fine for him, being high risk of infection and serious complications and hospitalisation, to go on holiday.

If he was in hospital being treated for pneumonia it’s surely far more likely that he caught COVID while in hospital than on a plane or in Barbados? Given that he travelled back, what, mid December?
