Easily done, either allow people to apply online from outside the UK, or set up a processing centre in France, or accept that people are going to everything possible to arrive on UK shores if the only way they can apply for asylum is on UK soil. There is no magic to it. The government simply don't want to do anything which makes it easier for someone to apply, but also doesn't want to give up the Human Rights and Asylum conventions it is signed up to, and so it walking some stupid tightrope which is costing a fortune and doing nothing to deter people arriving. Also, for what it's worth, we had higher levels of asylum applications in the early 2000's, but the big difference then was applications were processed quickly and so people didn't spend months in housing.
Also, for what it's worth again, the OBR's economic projections rely on there being at least the same level of immigration going forwards for the Government's spending plans to be credible. Pretty much all the economic growth is coming from having more people here, rather than increasing the output of the existing workforce, which creates a real problem. If they cut immigration, there is no growth. If they continue with the immigration, people get frothy.
The government have cracked it, just caught the end of it on the news, they are going to advertise in FB saying why immigrants shouldn’t come to UK.
So no more boats then couldn’t make it up if you tried.

Apologies for quoting myself, but it must have been a premonition https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-68626430

This is so far off of the mark its unreal. Ive spent time in VN and understand how no-nonsense their government is, and just how they enforce rules/policy. These wishy-washy posters are tantamount to an advert to actually make the trip: the appropriate message should be along the lines of "We will find you and apply the full force of the law". So no more boats then couldn’t make it up if you tried.

A complete waste of money and shows yet again just how out of touch this government is.

The Vietnamese/English translation was interesting as well not that it always translate exactly, but made me smile.

Not sure what this government is playing at to allow these to get so high. Some 4,644 have made the journey in 2024 - a record for the first three months of a calendar year.

There doesn't seem to be anything they can do to stop it in actuality - current laws prevent any real action to either stop them or send them back.I think they are letting it get worse on purpose, so that the next government has an even bigger st show to take care of.

Why would you expect anything different from a group of sub-moronic incompetent fktards with an ideology that says the only way to improve a service is to starve it of resources... for 14 years.article said:

These are the geniuses who stopped post-graduate students bringing family over lest it cause too much immigration, but let anyone with a "care home" stamp visas like they had a printing press.

one care home that did not exist and had sponsored 275 migrant visas, and a further 1,234 certificates granted to a company with only four employees when given a licence.
Eviction from power isn't enough. They need to be made homeless and forced to rely on the public services they've made for the past decade.Edited by glazbagun on Wednesday 27th March 18:20

Still, it should be sorted pretty soon if that's all there is to it, once Labour get in. Looking forward to it.

Yeah they are doing it on purpose. Because that's going so well for them isn't it?

Yes me too. This is what they said they will do - but being politicians I wouldn't really trust them, but getting rid of the virtue signalling Rwanda scheme and focusing efforts on trying to actually resolve this would be a start.Still, it should be sorted pretty soon if that's all there is to it, once Labour get in. Stephen Kinnock, shadow immigration minister, said: "Despite all the evidence to the contrary, Rishi Sunak keeps on telling the British people that small boat arrivals are coming down and his promise to stop the boats remains on track.
"Can he not see what is happening from inside his No 10 bunker, or does he think we can't see it for ourselves?
"Either way, it's time to get a grip and restore order to the border."
He said a Labour government would strengthen border security, crush smuggling gangs, clear the asylum backlog, end hotel use and set up a new returns and enforcement unit.

Labour don't have a magic wand, they are going to have to deal with 14 odd years of under investment, and funds for immigration management being diverted to blatantly idiotic ideas like Rwanda, and barges with built in legionella.

And any ‘red meat’ voters have likely decamped to Reform.
This ‘they’re doing it on purpose’ idea just doesn’t stand up.
What a plank

“ Gullis said: “Those pesky peers in the House of Lords, predominantly Labour, and Labour MPs and Sir Keir Starmer in the House of Commons are continuing to block any attempts that we make in order to get this Rwanda policy off the ground ...”
Ridge quickly intervened: “But you abstained on the Rwanda vote, didn’t you?”

Once processed the people don't need housing so that is another problem solved.

The Tories have a dirty secret: they don’t want to reduce immigration
The whole government system is hardwired to favour mass migration: it’s the ultimate short-term fix
