So have the Tories announced they've awarded a lucrative contract to fly asylum seekers to Rwanda to a Tory Donor who doesn't have any planes?
It'll cost £1.8m per person to fly them out (for the first 300), so a good payday for the "chums" that get selected to run the scheme.

https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2024/mar/01/rw...
36,704 illegal immigrants entered the UK in 2023, thus at £1.8 million per immigrant, if we'd sent them all to Rowada, the total cost to UK TAXPAYERS WOULD'VE BEEN £36 billion pounds.
No it wouldn't. The first 300 on a plane has no relationship to the set up costs, so dividing one by the other = faux headline.

The 300 on the first plane has notrelationsh
Does the 1.8 million per person also include a hold bag or a 23kg suitcase? At government mates contract prices for Rwanda transport I guess that will be an extra 150k per bag, maybe another 50k for a legroom seat. Just make it a round 2mill.

So once Labour get into power and dismantle this scheme, how much would the Rwanda farce have cost the taxpayer so far?

Apparently the Rwanda government are setting up a scheme to give passage back to Europe. That way they get paid twice.

Not via small boats though.

The other half of the scheme where Rwanda sends 'vulnerable' refugees from there to the UK seems to have gone quiet - Is that still happening, what happens to them when they get here?

According to the DM they get a priority council house and max benefits.

The French police have blood on their hands. How is it possible that they catch them red handed in an overloaded boat and yet they do nothing?

That used to be the case, but the council housing stocks have been depleted such that those schemes are no longer available to 'vulnerable' refugees. Though they are being offered £3k to take a flight back home.

Mr Penguin said:
I think the underlying problem here is that hundreds of thousands of people illegally enter Europe, mostly through Turkey-Greece, Libya-Italy, and Morocco-Spain. Dealing with people crossing the Channel by sending them to Rwanda or back to France is just fixing the problems that come with not dealing with that at a higher cost.

All major European countries need to pay for better defences of Europe's borders at these points, processing facilities to register claims elsewhere and negotiate a change in international law so these people can register outside Europe and have no excuse to enter illegally.

We can start by sending Albanians back, there is no reason for so many Albanians to be seeking asylum.

Also worth remembering that other countries like the Rwanda policy and are looking into it themselves, so the cost of this policy will be replicated across Europe. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2023/dec/17/cdu-...
We can already send Albanians back - they managed to sign an agreement for that.

Serious question - if the police see a group of people getting in a dinghy on the beach, what offence have they committed?

Having linked to the story did you actually read it?

It makes clear the Police tried to stop the boat on the beach but failed because some of the smugglers fought with them.

Once an over crowded boat gets clear of the shore there is very little they can safely do.

No, you can't be serious if you are asking that.

Is there no French coastguard or equivalent of the RNLI either then?

Must be a bugger taking a boat out from one of those quaint French ports all along the northern coast of France.

Are they police officers or just bystanders picking up a pay packet?
