Pretty incredible stuff. I wonder what the future for Twitter is now…

It will be interesting to see how many of Twitter’s predominantly young, liberal employees wish to continue working for a libertarian billionaire.

It will also be interesting to see how many of Twitter’s most-followed accounts, eg @barackobama, @Cristiano, @CNN, @BBCBreaking, @nytimes will want to continue having their brands associated with a platform owned by a libertarian billionaire.

Probably exactly the same way that the young liberal employees of Tesla, Space X, Boring Co, etc will react…. They love him.

Twitter can be used to link with crypto - in particular micropayments/lightning network. It just needs someone with sufficient ambition and control to implement it.

Why would it bother them? So what if he has a libertarian bent. It will all depend on how the company goes.

Is leaving people alone a bad thing now?

Funny that people on either side think Elon is going to run some extreme right wing 'free speech absolutist' platform, given that nothing he has done ever before points that way.

Maybe sometimes things have lined up that way at certain times when it suited him (all his Covid bks), but he's been just as quick to get the CCP to block Tesla critics in China when that was in his interest.
He's a very philanthropic person and is clearly only buying Twitter for the good of the world (and who knows, to prove calling people 'pedo' is a jokey phrase after all smile).

No such thing as free speech, and those calling for it most often just mean "my speech"...

Decidedly odd. The word 'libertarian' is being used in a very negative way.

It’s not the town square. Ridiculous analogy.

The web is the town square. Twitter is a small shop within it.

Part of me wants to see him, moments after taking the keys, sending an axe through the server room and sending twitter into the abyss, never to rise. Then just walking away from it.

That would be some massive F U Money play. I don't know who for or why, but its Twitter and Twitter is a cancerous turd.

Twitter is probably the single most important website.

For what?

I use it regularly so I understand how excellent it is for fast breaking news etc. but fking hell it’s a cesspit already.

And it has a tiny active user base compared to Facebook, TikTok, Instagram etc.

The guy sure gets around. X.com, PayPal, SpaceX, Tesla, Solar City, The Boring Company, Twitter….

Heck he even dated Amber Heard… for a month. Came away with all his fingers too.

A lie is round the world before the truth has got its boots on.

Maybe I don't use the other SM sites enough, but if I want to see what someone has got to say about something, I'll look on their twitter page. I don't know anything like it that lets me, a mere powerfully built PH worthy director, read direct from the keyboards of world leaders and experts without a media's agenda, even the BBCs "both sidesism", getting in the way.
