I like Ange. Cannot abide Starmer. However. Given her long time clamouring for the tax records of some Tories, her unwillingness to share her own is, sadly, hypocritical. Gone down in my estimation. All she had to say was something like 'if I have made any mistakes with regards the electoral register or CGT it was unintentional and I am happy to retroactively make amends. This house sale was a long time ago and right now I'm a bit more concerned with creating a government in waiting to help the country out of the hole 13 years of Tory governance has brought'.
A statement like this would have ensured the couple of grand she may or may not owe rapidly disappeared from the publics mind, instead she has dug her heels in and helped make a story just at a time those loveable Tory scamps have been shooting themselves in both feet on a daily basis.
Maybe. If she goes over this then politics is politics. The hypocrisy thing is hardly confined to her and I would take issue with this being a mess of her own making.A statement like this would have ensured the couple of grand she may or may not owe rapidly disappeared from the publics mind, instead she has dug her heels in and helped make a story just at a time those loveable Tory scamps have been shooting themselves in both feet on a daily basis.
It's being whipped up to a frenzy by Tories & their client journos. Harry Cole tweeted about 300 times on it yesterday & Ashcroft, who set all this rolling in the first place is no model of financial probity himself.
On top of all that. I sincerely doubt a mea culpa from Ange would have quelled things. If there's one thing I've learned about the current crop of right wing steambags, it's nothing ever satisfies them. They're a bunch of rapacious malcontents, baying endlessly for more. I imagine Rayner sees this & thinks she has little to lose toughing it out in the context of the Westminster bubble & Sunak's relentless stepping on rakes.

You can apply that to all parties and sides of the media. It is the (sad) nature of politics in the UK.It's being whipped up to a frenzy by Tories & their client journos. Harry Cole tweeted about 300 times on it yesterday & Ashcroft, who set all this rolling in the first place is no model of financial probity himself.

(but also by no means confined to the UK)

PM, I couldn't care what the steambags say, they're gonna steam regardless. But had she metaphorically put her hands up, given access to the figures at least, the public, for it was they whom I was referring to, would have soon forgotten particularly in the face of the movable feast of ineptitude and corruption the other lot cam be relied on to serve up almost daily. Her intransigence, particularly in the face of her previous demands, shows a political naivety and the kind of arrogance I had hoped she did not possess. Perhaps power does, in fact, corrupt...quickly and absolutely. From memory Starmer isn't weighing in much on this? It likely suits his own agenda to allow her to lose her 'voice of the people/our ange' image. Rats in a sack, the lot of them
I think that's pretty fair to be honest.I can understand she thinks it's a private matter but you can't be saying that whilst asking for other people to release records they consider a private matter.

They sure are!The other possibility is she hasn't done anything wrong & is acting from a position of self assurance, which others are choosing to interpret as arrogance, thus far without conclusive proof either way. That may also be bks but she has said as much publicly, so with the idea in hand that no one naive rises to deputy leader of a national party, there is a lot riding on her public pronouncements. Either way, it will come out in the wash. It always does.

Thats why Turbo's been quiet. He has gathered a cult of fellow unhinged in that thread and can't risk having that account banned. I'm convinced he has alt accounts, Wombat3 seems the obvious one, same posting style, same kind of bks.
I don't think so.There are just people for who “The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.” applies.
Never have understood how people get like that over a political party but there you go.

This is entirely the issue. it's not about what she did 10 years ago it's now about whether she is lying and covering up now....less than 9 months from an election that might see her become deputy PM.Some would like to know if she is actually fit to hold that office.

Wonder what the Venn diagram of those people and the people still convinced Johnson shouldn't have resigned in disgrace looks like Also always best to try and avoid repeating errors I'm sure you'd agree

Tory MPs who spent several hours ‘talking out’ a bill to make upskirting a criminal offence in 2018 have now been knighted for their ‘services to public life’.
“Do not underestimate just how furious many Tory MPs are about this. This kind of thing does far more damage to the public’s view of our party than endless debates about customs arrangements,” Paul Masterton MP tweeted.

No idea. Can't change what went before. What happens next is not so fixed.
Yeah can't change it so just pretend it didn't happen. That's brilliant
I'd have thought that with the levels of righteous indignation you have shown over (most) misdemeanours in public life you'd leading the charge to want to understand whether Rayner is telling the truth or not!
P'raps you are just as guilty of having blinkers on as some of those you delight in accusing multiple times a day?
