I am in France at the moment and its considerably more expensive than last time I was here. Yet to do a supermarket shop but fuel is 2+ euro a litre and stuff like Mcdonalds is 30% more. Stopped at the services yesterday and a sandwich, crisps and drink came to 12 euros...
Have they stopped the fuel subsidy? When I was there in Sept it was around the €1.40 mark McD’s IS expensive in France, always thought it was much more than U.K. .. but they do seem to have a better ( and fresher ) selection of stuff available
I paid 2.12 and 2.18 on the motorways on the way down!
Pretty average looking basket of shopping was 120 euros too. And they say brexit has caused prices to go up in the UK.. I dont think so!!!
It’s very easy to become myopic and see only what’s around you and forget it’s not just the U.K. where it’s happening

The kind that buys an extra hash brown with said meal
Allowed then I can’t with the hash browns, just the squelch as you bite into them makes me feel guilty!

Early December was the last time I shopped there, noticing their standard size tins of beans cost 45p. Now 60p which is a 33% increase in 1 month.
But it has to change price at some point in time.If it was 45p on 1st of December and it went up to 60p on the 2nd (just say it did), then you could claim it's gone up 33% in 1 day.
That's why you need to measure any increase over a longer period, a year being the accepted time period for such calculations.

If you have it with the egg its just too much stuff and it wont hold together and personally I think Mcdonalds eggs are on the same scale as spray can cheese. Its got cheese in the name but thats about it.
I also do the same with bacon roll, put the hash brown on the roll.

I dont like hash browns on their own, taste horrible to me. However get yourself a breakfast roll (ketchup) with no egg and stick the hash brown on the roll to make it part of the roll... its really good.

Still cannot forgive them for discontinuing the breakfast wraps. If you have it with the egg its just too much stuff and it wont hold together and personally I think Mcdonalds eggs are on the same scale as spray can cheese. Its got cheese in the name but thats about it.

Just renewed my Virgin Media.
Was currently on 500 meg (think it might have been upgraded to 600 during the 18 month contract), multiroom, every channel including HD Sky Sports BT Sports etc. Unlimited landline calls (I don't use a house phone) and an unlimited everything mobile sim, was paying £89 a month.
After getting two deals off someone, she then put me through, offered me another deal, was still too high said nah cancel, she came back and offered everything the same as before (other than weekend landline calls which is irrelevant to me), upgraded 1 gig internet and free Netflix for 18 months, for £85, I accepted the offer. She also said you get some reward which was like free Disney+ for 3 months or something but I've gotta pick which one so I'll look at that later.
£4 saved, better internet, free Netflix for 18 months, result.

Signs that people are cutting back and are spending less money, or natural slowdown after the lockdown "I am bored so I will order some junk off the internet" boom?

Doesn't imply a slowdown in sales to me.
GDP reported as UP in November contrary to “Experts” forecasts.
There is a huge element of talking ourselves into a recession and much of the media is almost willing it on. Bad news sells and Brits love a moan.
The facts are clear that really the economy is plodding along, not booming and not tanking.
What that means for you as an individual is unique but the headlines are clear.

Switched from Aldi, been at Aldi for 10+ years...to Asda, seems to of significantly reduced the weekly shop cost for essentials, their own new "yellow label" essential food is actually very good and very cheap.
Worth a look in if you need to cut back - plus the one near me is 24hours, so can do the big shop at a unsociable hour, and avoid the people in dressing gowns and slippers

There's been a few reports over the last week or so of various companies/sectors etc reporting no such slow down or reduction in spending. There is a huge element of talking ourselves into a recession and much of the media is almost willing it on. Bad news sells and Brits love a moan.

For example:
Holidaymakers spending more as bookings rise: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-64234234
These reports keep going against all the gloom and doom predictions.
