Why oh why oh why do I need to drive this evening? It's sunny out, the SNP & Yousless are staring down the barrel of a No Confidence motion, and Paddy the woman hater will likely be out of a job. I'm in a good mind to take the afternoon off, and sit in the garden getting thoroughly pished in celebration.
Today is indeed a magnificent day, and it's been a great many long years coming. Only way it could be improved would be for Foghorn Dreghorn to get lifted as well.

Wonderful to watch FMQ today, they were all having a go at useless who had more excuses than a pregnant nun. It is all westinsters fault for not giving them enough money, pity they wasted the money they have on boats, waste management etc.
A joy to see the long faces on the Green Party.
Vote of no confidence? Bring it on
Harvie even asked a question, took all of 10 seconds to say it, dismissed by useless in even same time.

Force a Scottish election before the Westminster drubbing robs them of the funding needed to fight it.
None left over to fight the general election probably wouldn’t have much consequence given they’re likely facing a wipeout.
At least another Scottish election might give them some political relevance for the next few years
Or am I pondering chess mentality at the tiddlywinks table

Well worth a read.
" The Scottish government would be the voice of a particular kind of largely-Glaswegian smugness: holier than thou, briskly intolerant of alternative views, and firmly of the view that if the people lacked the wisdom or vision to appreciate what was good for them the government would impose it upon them anyway."

If we all get what we want basically rid of the SNP what happends to all of Sturgeon's nasty nats and lunatic face painters, with no one to tell them who to rail against and hate it will be like some zombie apocalypse with all these lost souls frothing at the mouth looking for someone to shout at, Slimy Eck doesn't want them he's got enough to worry about with his lame duck Alba party.
Looks like they will all be cast aside as casualties of Sturgeon's ego.

Looks like Dougie Ross has lodged his VONC. But It's for Yousless as FM, not the wider Scottish Government. So, Yousless gets binned, the SNP merely 'elect' Kate Forbes, and continue unchanged as a minority administration. Forbes is the one person in the whole rotten SNP for whom I have a scintilla of respect, as she seems principled and at least moderately competent. There's a very real prospect if she becomes FM then all the Sturgeon deadwood would get cleared out, all the files released to public scrutiny, and the rotting carcass of the the SNP resurrected to something approaching life, just in time for the next Holyrood elections in 2026. Slow hand clap there, Dougie, you cretin.

Yousaf only needs 1 MSP (assuming he can successfully herd his own sheep) to either abstain or vote with him and he’s safe. If this was a vote of confidence in the Scottish Government then the odds are that he’d manage it because someone, somewhere on the opposition benches would probably be turnable via the usual mechanism of offering cash for constituency projects, supporting private members bills (McArthur’s assisted dying bill for example).Make it a referendum on Yousaf and suddenly all those wronged SNP MSPs (Forbes, Ewing etc) are turnable. Ross has a far better chance of getting this to succeed. The downside is that, as you say, what happens next could make the SNP (more) electable again and deliver them the 2026 election.

I dont think even Forbes can reserect the SNP from the inevitable infighting/splits and collapse to anything resembling a competent government in time for the next elections. sherman said:

Given the way their polling numbers have inexplicably held up despite all the incompetence, police involvement and other scandals, I wouldn’t be so sure. If an election was held tomorrow, the SNP would almost certainly be the largest party and Yousaf would probably leading a minority group not that much smaller than his current one.alangla said:

Forbes if she gets elected will clean house of the grifters in the cabinet which they wont be happy about.
They will either leave the party or create a splinter group in the party a bit like the conservatives have just now in westminster.
I also think that Angus Robertson is a likely challenger for the leadership which could split tge party too.

I think they'll do everything to keep him until the election with the new leader taking over the next day. The SNP will then need all the time they can get to choose a new leader and build back up in time for the General Election which is less than a year away.

Not if he loses the No Confidence vote next week. His position is untenable in parliment then. He will be booted to the back benches.

I suspect many in the party will have given up on the General Election, other than it being a useful stick to beat Yousaf with when Starmer takes most of the central belt seats. The main concentration will probably be the 2026 Holyrood election. The SNP will then need all the time they can get to choose a new leader and build back up in time for the General Election which is less than a year away.
