Caretaker time; they'll drag one of the auld yins out of the back bench and let them try and pick the dog turd up by the clean end and limp to the election. Swinney, Grahame or perhaps Ewing.
Angus Robertson. Its the reason he went to Holyrood after losing his Westminster seat.
Continuity candidate. Anyone else will change too much.
Swinneys too close to Sturgeon just now.
Ewing has no wish to be in charge.

Looks like Dougie Ross has lodged his VONC. But It's for Yousless as FM, not the wider Scottish Government. So, Yousless gets binned, the SNP merely 'elect' Kate Forbes, and continue unchanged as a minority administration.
This assumes the Greens would abstain in a VONC but then support the next SNP nomination. If there is an election for FM there is nothing to stop the Yoon parties agreeing a candidate. That said with the next Holyrood election not far away it is a bad time to take ownership of the mess the SNP have made of the entire country.
If a new govt is going to take hard decision to unwind the SNP mess much better to be doing it at the start of a 5 year term than with the election looming.
The Telegraph are reporting that the Greens have confirmed that they will vote with the Conservatives, Labour and the Lib Dem's against Humza and that his fate now lies in the hands of Alba MSP Ash Reegan. Some symbolic poetic justice about to be served? Wings is stating that under the Scotland Act 1998 there is no requirement for a FM who loses a vote of no confidence to step down. It may make Humza look daft for not doing so but he is hardly shy of being in that position as we all know. It looks like Douglas Ross has missed the opportunity to bring down the SNP government by filing the wrong motion.

Not sure sure he has (filed the wrong motion that is). Giving Humza a kicking while keeping the SNP on life support until the General Election is probably a smart move.Snow and Rocks said:
If Humza does go which seems almost certain, it seems pretty unlikely that the greens will support Kate Forbes as his replacement either.
Exactly. The SNP struggled to elect a leader last time around because the choice of eventual winner still needs to be passed by the Shortbread senate. The 'issues' surrounding Forbes have not gone away, plus whoever takes over still has to deal with the ongoing stink of Branchform. The SNP struggled to get candidates last time. Who is going to put themselves forward that is (a) going to get successfully elected as FM and (b) going to be able to put clear air between themselves and the fallout from Sturgeon and Murrell.
I can't think of anyone. The only one stupid enough to try might be Flynn but currently he isn't eligible, so the SNP are f'kd for a replacement.
Plus, there is no requirement for Humza to resign anyway if he does lose the motion, so he either limps on as a lame duck or suffers the ignominy of being ousted by his own party followed by Holyrood then voting down a string of replacements. Win win for the opposition.
Ross played a blinder IMO.

Wings are citing a reliable source suggesting that Reagan is minded to support Yousaf in next week’s vote.
