In the centre of Perth this afternoon.

If there are any petrolhead PH Hollywood producers that might accidentally find themselves reading this thread and are scouting for an empty city devoid of life for a zombie movie, I have a production company I'll set up in a heartbeat with a PH postcode.

Humza is a post turtle. For those not familiar

An old rancher pinched his hand in a squeeze gate to the point of needing stiches. While his doctor was stitching him up their conversation came around to politics, when the doctor asked the old man what he thought of the current President.
The rancher responded by saying he thought the President was no more than a "Post Turtle."
He further explained, "When you're driving down an old country road and you come up upon a turtle balanced on a fence post, that's a post turtle."
Noting the curious look on the doctor's face, he realized that the doctor still did not understand, so he continued, "You know he didn't have the ability to get there himself, he has no idea how he got there or what he's doing, he has no natural ability to accomplish anything from there, and you can't help but wonder what idiot put him there. You can only pity him, for the injuries he'll receive when he falls from that post."

"Future recruitment and staff retention are key when business planning, and our data shows business leaders think that the introduction of the new tax band in Scotland will make things even more difficult for them. Responses show that leaders clearly see Scotland’s tax regime as yet another barrier to attracting and retaining talent - and encouraging investment.”"

I work in Perth occasionally, it's a beautiful city. Bit of roadworks on South Street, but it's not that bad? Great little tobacconists (remember them?!) still surviving just down from the bus station, sometimes drop in & pick up a few ounces of Drum and a quarter of aniseed balls, then a stroll around the North Inch. Lovely. The concert hall is one of the finest venues in Scotland.

Haven't spent much time in Perth but I thought irmt was a nice walkable city centre. +1 for the excellent concert hall. I love medium size venues like that. The SECC is too big and I only went to one football stadium gig.

The Armadillo is ok. I was put of the SECC apart from the size by the dreadful sound quality first time I was there. That could just have been the kit being used at that gig though. I haven't been often enough to comment on general sound quality. I like the Glasgow Royal Concert hall but I guess if you want to see mega acts they play big halls or stadiums.

Boohoo!

"Pete Wishart, his longest-serving MP, raised concerns over the number of pro-independence candidates standing against him.

“Apparently I’m going to be opposed by an Alba and an ‘unofficial’ Alba candidate at the General Election and maybe even a Green too,” he tweeted over the weekend. “Does anybody know how this advances independence and helps keep the Tories out?” "

https://www.heraldscotland.com/news/24255664.humza...

Apparently the SNP think they have a god given right to stand without any pro Indy candidates stealing "their" votes.

Come election night I will enjoy counting the seats where Green or Alba votes cost the SNP a seat.

When the sun shines, parts of it are pretty. But it is totally empty. I remember the high street with traffic and pedestrianising it has made it a lot nicer, but there's almost nothing there now. Waterstones, M&S and WH Smith are the only survivors. We took the children yesterday to see the Stone of Scone, which was very impressively done, but the city was a ghost town.

Part of my job takes me to most town and city centres in the central belt, and bar a very few exceptions, they are all like that now, it's so depressing, planning permission given in all of them a few years earlier on the outskirts, beside high amounts of new build housing, beside the duel carriageway for large outlet stores with accompanying drive throughs and chain pub/restaurant with a massive car park in the middle of it all, what did they expect!

My friend is a former SNP councillor and he is so unbelievably angry that his party has been taken over by “progressives”, who seems to care more for trans rights than independence.

It really is a weird hill to choose to die on for Yousef. It’s a joy to behold.

Can't be a patch on Elgin.

I struggled through the trolleys blocking the aisles in Home Bargains, (yes I know, but the cat food is cheaper), it was like Night of the Living Dead, where the zombies are drawn to any display which narrows the aisles, perfect for a length chat with Mavis and Donald....

It's like a Northern version of Cocoon!

TBF if its the Home Bargains out near Matalan and the big Iceland, its the far end of town, even the grotty Farmfoods on the high street is pretty busy tbf.

Heard a taxi driver on the radio saying he would like Kelvin Way reopened. He regularly took tourists along it when they wanted shown the best of the city
Is Kelvin Way shut at both ends?

When I was visiting my parents last year we went to the Art Gallery. I was planning on parking on Kelvin Way - turned in at the bottom end and “what the hell!”.

Only option was to use the car park which was expensive and didn’t give change frown

I used to park my car on Kelvin Way when I was at Uni. Where do students park now?

I can’t say I disagree with any of it.

Yep closed both ends. Even before it closed parked was cut to max 20 minutes. Barely king enough to walk a dog. I was approached once by a visitor going to a graduation ceremony who asked me if I knew anywhere nearby she could parked for two hours. Had to just tell her to try for space at the back of Ashton Lane. Meanwhile 90% of the parking bays on Kelvin Way were empty.

On the news MPs voting to increase MUP. With a clip from a campaigner saying it had cut alcohol deaths. Funny how the stats say otherwise. Deaths trending up since MUO came in back in 2018.
