What would you have called them?
Probably the most sensible thing would have been to have retained & promoted their existing names when they were absorbed into TfL rather than just branding all of them as “Overground”, though there are some new services in there that didn’t exist under Silverlink/Southern/Greater Anglia/London Underground.
Examples would be:
Suffragette Line - GOBLin (Gospel Oak to Barking Line), though at least that’s now green on the map!
Mildmay Line - North London Line.
Lioness Line - Watford DC Line.
The Windrush Line is really the East and South London lines combined, so I guess you’d want a new name for that & I don’t remember the other two really having names before.

I think they're all crap tbh. Some of the suggestions from the public and what we actually call them now would have been way better and made more sense.

Olympic/Olympia Line because Stratford and Kensington Olympia. Makes perfect sense.
Goblin. Gospel Oak to Barking Line

I guess Liberty does make sense Royal Liberty of Havering etc....It's still stupid though.

Suffragette line. Garbage.

All of it is totally forced, won't stand the test of time and is total garbage.

I'm not an extremist but like the new names and prefer them to something like The Churchill Line which just continues the tradition of naming things after powerful white blokes. There must be loads of things named after Churchill. He's even got his own insurance company.
Why are you trying to dismiss the evolutionary factors that are the reason for creating a White British population over many thousands of years? The indigenous population are white for evolutionary reasons, it's as simple as that! (unless you stupidly believe evolution to be racist :wibble: )

That means the UK will naturally have a history of white people achievements...

So people how will we tackle knife crime today? Not on the Agenda mate instead "TfL previously said the changes were expected to cost about £6.3m to complete"

Seems fitting given that the lines were actually built by feminists, immigrants and people with AIDS.

Would love to see what the panel of people looked like that chose this.
Probably a group of very well-informed people. Reading the article gave me an understanding and awareness of each name. Thanks. biggrin

The very definition of woke.
You say that like it's a bad thing...
I dunno, woke gave us things like women being able to drive and ethnic minorities being allowed to walk on the pavement! Surely, any self-respecting PBCD wouldn't stand for this kind of nonsense.

biggrin (I thought I'd better use a smiley in case anyone thought I was being serious.)

Really difficult to know what to be most angry about today. These railway line names or the country going into recession. So hard to know which of these important issues is the most impactful in terms of the state of the nation.

The wokes or reality. The wokes or reality. Hmm. Just can't make my mind up which is the bigger enemy.

Is this the TFL that's nearly broke? I don't really care about the names of the lines, but changing them to the tune of £6m, smacks of a vanity project on a seriously underfunded and creaking transport network that they are desperate for more people to use!

Before you know it they'll be stepping on cracks in the pavement, walking about in a loud shirt in a built up area and walking with an offensive wife!!

The issue is, Khant has spent £6.3m on this vanity project when he keep complaining about how broke TFL is. As usual, priorities for thee.....
