Is this the TFL that's nearly broke? I don't really care about the names of the lines, but changing them to the tune of £6m, smacks of a vanity project on a seriously underfunded and creaking transport network that they are desperate for more people to use!
To be fair, making them all the same colour and using the “overground” branding for all of them seems to be the real mistake. Regardless of the choice of name, doing something to distinguish them is long overdue.

I think those are brilliant names. I don't get the issue?
The issue is, Khant has spent £6.3m on this vanity project when he keep complaining about how broke TFL is. As usual, priorities for thee.....
TFL budget 9.5bn, surplus £79m 2023/4. Would Sir like to try knife crime?

Next thing you know they'll be demanding the vote.

TFL need money - why not accept sponsorship to name the lines, then we can have a Churchill line wink

And then they'll do something utterly ridiculous like name a train line after someone campaigning for women's rights!!?

The Suffragette Line should be the one you would use to catch Ryanair from Gatwick.

This is one of the things that "gets my goat". Militant feminists and those that hold politically correct genitalia will always say 'suffragettes' when referring to women's rights. Probably because they once heard it on that song.

The 'suffragists' campaigned using peaceful methods such as lobbying, and the 'suffragettes' were essentially terrorists, with a bunch of thugs and vandals. Their militant campaigning included unlawful and violent acts which attracted much publicity. Much like the good people that participated in the London riots 10 years ago.

Yes. They should have just voted for change if they wanted it...

All suffragists were labelled suffragettes (by the Mail, no less...) to try to belittle them, not all suffragettes supported terrorism.

It's not changing them, it's giving them a name. The overground is annoying to use when these lines were just called "Overground". They needed names.

To be honest I never found it a problem, having one "Overground" network was far simpler than what went before, for me.

Makes one wonder how the rest of the country copes with our un-named and confusing overground rail network.

It's teetering on the edge of 'Everything Must Be Politicised All The Time', but pauses on the brink by balancing out the list with the more neutral Liberty, Weaver, and Lioness. I suspect that's the effect of having a large panel making the choices rather than a bunch of Khan apparatchiks; I'll bet "Mayor's Line", "NHS Heroes", and "Palestine Line" were all on the original city hall list of suggestions.

It's irritating that the politicisation is always only ever in one direction though. Where's the Thatcher Line or the Nigel Lawson Line ? Or the Concorde or Brunel or Stephenson lines ? If it should be local history relevant, there's lots of Thames river history to call on too, but I guess 'The Royal Navy Was The Most Effective Force In Fighting Slavery Line' was a bit too long to fit on the signs.

Merseyside's local rail network has names for its lines. As do most metro systems around the world. It's just easier once the network is above a certain level of complexity.

As soon as I read the names I knew this was going to trigger some people. I wonder to what extent this was the plan and to what extent the anti-woke knobhead class are now part of the PR machine. Funny.
