Or should lawyers be barred from becoming legislators.

Slight conflict of interest.

Second work mate has now chipped in with this..

"How about making "tricky to fill in" voting slips, perhaps a little like puzzles? that way, thick people's votes will be null and void because they won't be able to fill the slips in correctly. Only intelligent people get to vote then. the majority of intelligent people will not vote based on celebrity status. If they did, they would have thought intelligently about it anyway. problem solved."

They really need to get thier own bloody accounts.

"If a celebrity stands for president or prime minister, then they will immediately get a certain percentage of the vote due to some people voting for him/her for his/her celebrity status, not his/her political policies. For this reason, it can be deemed as an unfair advantage. Therefore do people think that presidential candidates should not be allowed to run for office if they already have a certain level of celebrity status?"

The only two examples of this that i can currently think of are Regan and Mr Schwarzenegger

The latter can't run for president of the US in any case I believe, unless they change the constitution, due to him not being US born.

You actually have to be born there or born to a member of the US forces on overseas posting, not just a US citizen to be president as I understand it.

I'm surprised more celebrities don't run for these positions. Voter apathy is at it's highest and the celebrity cult has never been stronger.

I think many celebrities would have a good chance. There could even be some kind of reality tv show about it.
