So I hear he's putting forward law changes so the Royals aren't limited by religeon or sex... it's the Monarchy not a bloody office development, the first born son has always been the head of the family (once promoted as it were)

And why let Catholics in? They're the head of the church of england...

God dammit man, just butt out.

Discrimination indeed... Pillock.

It's just PC showmanship to detract from all the other troubles that Wee Willy Winky has got us into....
Time to bring back the treason laws, not to feck around with old laws which need no changes!
First in line for charges on treason..bLIAR and Wee Willy Winky

All this nonsense seems like a bit of smoke&mirrors to deflect all the criticism around the "credit crisis" that we're in - Is more of our taxpayer money being wasted? I think so...

I cant see any issue with the succession chage - all of our Greatest Monarchs were female, all of our worst were male.

This wouldn't be Great Britain without Queen Elizabeth (I) and Queen Victoria.

We'd all be speaking a different language of some sort.

RC faith is getting irrelevant. SO few people actually practice any kind of (Christian) religion in the UK (apart from those recently imported that is)

Not sure the subjects of Queen Matilda agreed with you there. Open rebellion, if I recall correctly. I'll cede the point after Betty I though.

As far as I'm concerned, I think it's a good idea.

Firstly, with regards to equal succession rights for women, the two Elizabeths and Victoria have ranked right up there with the best monarchs we've ever had in my view, so why on earth wouldn't we accept that the eldest child of the monarch automatically becomes first in line to the throne, regardless of their sex?

Secondly, the marrying of Catholics or converting to Catholicism. How on earth can anyone in their right minds think it is a good idea to have anything controlled by which slightly different version of a fictional character someone believes in? Organised religion is one of the biggest blights on humanity, so the more it can be marginalised and ignored, the better.

As far as I can see, that covers all of it?

I know it's only an example, but you can see where I got it from surely?

I think the bigger point here is that this demonstrates that Gordie isn't afraid of touching ANY part of Britain's historic and dynamic make-up.

There is now, officially, nothing he won't try and fk up.

But...But.... when quizzed about holding a general election, he says that he hasn’t the time, and every waking moment is dedicated to fu*king, I mean saving the economy!

The other poster is right, it’s all smoke and mirrors – his problem is that the majority know that’s just what it is, and the spin just aint working anymore.

I agree with this.

Religion should be no bar to becoming monarch, and if this means disestablishing the COE so be it.

As for sons having primacy, some of our best monarchs have been female and I am quite happy for them to change it to 1st born of either gender.

A long overdue reform.

It's yet more evidence that we have far too many civil servants. Brown doesn't come up with these madcap ideas on his own, he's got an army of non-jobs meddling with everything they can get their hands on in a futile attempt to justify their employment. Then Brown is briefed on the next ridiculous idea so he can give a soundbite about it.

However, in this specific case, I agree - why should a son have priority over his older sister? And the increasing marginalising of organised religion is a good thing IMO. Keep that personal and individual, not entwined with the state.
