Good stuff from the French, should be applauded.

Ban those stupid costumes and force CULTURAL integration if people are not willing to come along!

It's a rather curious form of sunbathing, in front of professional photographers, in a location where that outfit is banned.

Yeah. That's all there is to this one. Obviously.

Cant say i find what she is wearing offensive, but is this any different to somewhere like UAE enforcing its very strict laws against tourists? when that happens the general reaction seems to be that rules are rules and you ever hear an outcry about the country being racist/discriminating against westerners

Lets not forget there have been cases of western women being raped/gang raped and being sentenced to prison for having sex outside of marriage and fined for consuming alcohol once reporting the crime, holding hands and sharing a room with someone of the opposite sex you are not married to could also land you in prison

France have imposed a strict law which should be respected in the way people are expected to respect the VERY strict laws in somewhere like UAE

The problem with social media is people go for the picture impact before actually thinking what they're doing. Whether a scuba suit or nuns smock is legal is completely irrelevant as neither are designed specifically for the beach, which the burkini is. A subtle difference, but if you think about it you'll get there.

You can't blame the Nice French for the knee-jerk reaction of banning certain clothing after that awful terrorist attack.
Oh, absolutely. Banning some clothing, in a knee-jerk reaction, as you put it, is perfectly reasonable. At the same time, perhaps it would be prudent to ban people with perma-tans driving vehicles.

It's a nonsense reaction and deserves ridicule.
Like your post.

1. Show me where I said it was perfectly reasonable please.
2. Obviously you struggle with literacy, but I suspect a ten year old might be able to guess I was using the phrase 'awful terrorist act' to mitigate the French reaction. But I'll rest assured, even though it's never happened to you, that if hundreds of your fellow townsfolk were killed or injured by some loon in a truck, that there's no way you'd become emotional about it and move to introduce some petty laws that may make you feel a bit safer.

No if she had a surf board that would be gnarly not extreme !!!!!

This is not about clothes, this is about Islamic extremism and interpretation.

The book says women should dress modestly, is this an extreme interpretation of modest yes I think it is. She is not wearing this because she is doing a sport, she is doing it because she has been brain washed into thinking this is how good Muslim women should dress.

The book makes reference to jihad and killing non Muslims, which a small percentage interpret that to mean In all circumstances wherever you find them. Do I think this is an extreme interpretation- yes I do. Again this is what these people have been brainwashed into thinking good Muslims should do.

Of course her dress is unlikely to want to kill people, but We either ban extremist interpretations or we don't.
Exactly and the french are sick of the extremist muslims living within their country. They're taking a stand, they have to.

This isn't a French law drawn up by the government. It's a local mayor of a provisnsial region that's decided this is necessary and is taking advantage of the state of emergency to make up laws which suits their political agenda.

Oh, and the whole point about what people are allowed to do in freedom loving western countries is that we don't live in the kinds of states that impose these draconian religious dominated laws, such as the middle eastern countries. We are not stooping to their levels of oppression... Do we? And we don't justify things by saying "well they do it over the so we should do it here"

I suspect that the incident was set up, and that the police took the bait.

Err, thy can take their devisive values back home where they belong. I don't want them and I don't need them. It's a sick religion, let it remain in their arab lands. I certainly don't want it and I bet the french are regretting it as are the germans.

I think in government positions they do ban the Turban and all other outward religious symbols.

I am an advocate of a secular society, but this is ridiculous

Edit: I see one of the posters defending the law agrees that it is petty: nothing more to be said then.

Didn't think so. It's ok as long as it's your religious symbol/it's not a Muslim one. Strike out whichever takes your fancy.
