Brexit should show you what the population thinks and that is what I base my view on - reality is many substituted the immigration word for Muslims.<snip>
I'm shocked. Are you suggesting that those who voted for Brexit did so because they don' like muslims?
I wouldn't be surprised if a fair number of them took that into consideration. I doubt it's clear cut though. People I spoke to weren't overly bothered about the Polish workers. It was the migrants from France they didn't want here.
Well I've had at least one conversation with someone who voted out to stop the illegal immigrants. Who also expressed that it's illegal immigrants that do the bombings and should be sent back to where they come from.

As he had my boiler split into it's component parts at the time, I decided not to correct him on...well everything.

What is this total nonsense? For fk's sake man, can you really not see what the fuss is about? French towns have implemented fascist, racist laws which target women of a certain background. Of course you can blame them, all this does is make terrorist attacks more likely as you're sending a clear message to Muslims they are hated and will be arbitrarily punished despite doing nothing wrong.

The law is the law attitude is such a load of st as well. Can we not get angry at certain laws? Homosexuality is punishable by death in some Arabic states, bet you don't think "well the law is the law" as far as that is concerned, do you?

This is a horrible, horrible law and it needs changing immediately. What kind of society have we become when we criminalise people simply for covering their bodies in sandy areas?
Yes, it's not actually the end of the world BJG1, so no need to reach for the smelling salts yet old girl. When the perceived threat of terror passes the French will repeal the law. Until then it's simply a matter of wearing clothing unlikely to wind up the local gendarmerie. Sure - it's not good for Franco-Muslim relations, but then nor is driving a lorry through crowds of people.

Can't see how anyone can defend this but not surprised to see the PH racists out in force doing exactly that.

Pal, haven't you heard? Racism isn't a problem these days, they just want to have a debate. hehe PH needs its own National Front section.
Tiresome

If you look through the thread only a handful have supported this stupid ban.

Not sure why there's such a furore. The woman knew the law and chose to flaunt it. You can't blame the Nice French for the knee-jerk reaction of banning certain clothing after that awful terrorist attack. The new law is a bit unsubtle, but so is driving a lorry through hundreds of people.

Executing people for being gay is an Extreme interpretation of what their religious texts say. You are correct it is not acceptable and we should educate people that Extremist Islam is not acceptable in Western Societies.

Dressing head to toe in black clothing whilst swimming is an Extreme interpretation of "women should dress modestly". We should educate people that extremist Islam is not acceptable in Western Societies.

I fully appreciate the outcomes are significantly different, but do we allow Extreme Interpretations of Islam or do we not ?

There was an article on Right wing extremist.com, about the Saudi Athlete that competed at the Olympics in full Hijab - oh how wonderful it was that this woman could compete - in the archaic dress commands of an outdated religion, History is made!
The young lady in the office said it was ok, it was her personal choice to dress like that. She went on - it is just like Kim Khardashian - she has made the personal choice to dress as she does, a woman should be able to dress as they please.

Kim has choices, A, B C D E F all the way to Z, she could wear the full Hijab if she wanted.

The Saudi athlete also has choices, she has A or A, or punishment. Oh how we celebrate her freedoms...

Sorry but that's two completely ridiculous comparisons.

The first one is an example of imposing "your" views on another person.

The second one is an example of an individual choosing to wear what "they" want.

Which category do you think the "Burkini ban" falls into?

But Kim no longer has the choice to wear a burkini on some french beaches....one step closer to the Saudi ideal.

Though links to extremists have yet to be found, I think the fact a group responsible for a previous terrorist attack in France called the driver a 'soldier of Islam' is relevant, and might affect public feeling towards Muslims.

Tomorrow I'll be down the beach. There will be a mix of Muslims & Christians.

The Muslim ladies will be wearing everything from skimpy bikinis, modest 2 piece swimsuits, 1 piece swimsuits, burqini's & full burkha in the water. It's a sad day when a Muslim state is more tolerant than a modern western democracy.

You know that women on the beach aren't terrorists, right? This is like banning people from drinking guiness because of the IRS.

I'm glad you've cleared up that you think it's perfectly fine to enact fascist policies because of a "perceived" threat though. Nice to know exactly what sort of person you are.

Jesus wept.

All lorry drivers will be asked to bathe naked on the beach next. Just in case.

Its not a case of accepting extreme interpretations or not though. You can not accept killing gays but accept a woman has a right to dress as she sees fit ffs.

I don't disagree that some Muslim women have less choice than other women but banning them from wearing burkinis doesn't liberate them it just banishes them from one more public place.

Also burkinis aren't head to toe black garments.

Loving the melodrama BJG1. smile

If you'd read my posts properly instead of taking the odd one out of context to launch your histrionics you'd have noted I said the ban was a 'knee-jerk reaction', and made no comment on what I personally thought on the matter.

I think it is a ridiculous law too, but ironic that you mention French Towns implementing this "facist racist law" when they have allowed themselves to become segregated with huge concentrations of Muslim areas, little prospect of any meaningful integration, all on the back of a left wing open tolerance and acceptance agenda.

It seems as though, just as the case in Brussels / Belgium, the head in the sand attitude never worked and is now coming home to roost, and the only way to quell the people now pointing out the obvious shortcomings of such "tolerant" policies is to veer massively to the right.
st or bust, never works.
