It's not "them" demanding change, as far as I can see. It's "us" demanding that they dress a certain way.
Our fault, eh?

It's always our fault.

Why does it bother you? What impact does it have on your life that the 2 sexes in some religions pray separately? Or are you just being petty for the sale of it?

But Muslim women on a beach aren't doing this and we are changing the country's laws in order to suit racists. This isn't a law that's been around for decades.
Have a stab in the dark as to why the French are feeling a tad upset at the moment with people from a certain culture.

The woman is almost irrelevant, she's a result of, rather than a cause.

It bothers me because it's wrong. Gay marriage has zero to do with me but I support it because it's right.

I'd argue undermines hard-fought western sex-equality progress.

Do you think the separation of the sexes at prayer was instigated by the females of the faith?

Are/were you happy with Male Only Golf Clubs for instance?

She isn't irrelevant, she's the one being made to take her clothes off by armed police. The fact that you are happy for her to be persecuted through no fault of her own is exactly what makes you a racist.

I understand why the French are upset but that doesn't excuse this rule and if they want to get blown up again this is a bloody good way of going about it.

Nothing sexist about western religions of course. Just look at all those female catholic priests and Anglican bishops.

There are many instances of gender separation in the UK. Schools, colleges, sports, religious, etc etc.

You'd ban them all would you?

I'm not a racist.

Explain why I'm a racist? What country was she from?

Haven't read the whole thread, but...

When i go to Qatar, If i went on a public beach in normal or long length shorts, i would be thrown in jail. Very very quickly. And jail out there is not nice. Really not nice! And i would be there for a very long time. And then promptly deported never to return.

In Qatar, sticking two fingers up at some one is a really serious offence. Again, probably jail or some serious bother at least.

The thing is, when in Qatar i do as the locals do. If i don't want to be covered up on the beach, then i don't go. i dont stick fingers up at people who cut me up on the roads. I dont drink, or eat pork.

When it is the other way round there seems to be little attempt at integration. Whilst i am not offended at what this woman has done, it is. In a lot of peoples eyes quite offensive and rude.

Some flip side hyperbole would be to say that England had been ramming trucks through Ramadan crowds, shooting up shopping centers and magazines in Qatar shouting "Jesus rocks". And then standing in their town centre eating a bacon butty whilst flipping the bird at the locals.

A negative reaction would be well justified. Unfortunately in the west we have been corrupted by political correctness, this is not leading to unification but is driving communities apart. Rather than saying to Muslim women, if you want to live in England then you need to be a bit English, We are saying; its OK. We can have a Muslim women only swim session at the local pool.

There is no religion that doesn't foster an unhealthy attitude to the female sex however much it tries to say otherwise. Their main manuscripts betray them in this matter.

Not always. However In this particular case, yes, I think so.

It's not only a stupid, moronic law by the French. It's contrary to basic western values.

I think that's why it's causing the Far-right elements of our society such convulsions. Normally it as quite easy to point at how stupid and backwards certain laws in Islamic countries are applied. Yet now we are applying something similar.

Sports are logical. Where women and men can compete equally, they all ready do. That's a no brainer.

The rest are antiquated and shouldn't happen in a modern society but they'll die out in time.

I take it you're happy with gender segregation in today's British society?

So she suffers because she's Muslim, rather than for any other reason?

Well if there's anything that's going to help integrate French Muslims that'll be it.......

Or seeks to uphold them dependent upon your stand point.

Channel 4 news made this point last night. It's Liberalism v Liberalism in a way.

You are racist because you support an incredibly racist rule. You can argue a religion isn't a race if you like and substitute racist for bigot but the point is still the same. You are dehumanising a person because they look different from you and you're scared of that. You are happy for armed police to force a woman to remove her clothes because someone of the same race as her carried out a terrorist attack. You are refusing to look at these people as a diverse range of individuals and lumping them all into your own warped view of their beliefs and values.

See, I get that and I whole heartily agree.

But....

Tell us what we should do.

If you were the EU then it would be that more EU is needed. So, do we need to be more accepting, do we need to embrace Islam and all convert to the book? Would that solve the issues the cultural schism the west is going through?

No it isn't, it's liberalism vs authoritarianism/fascism.

A liberal would condemn many aspects of Islam but not seek to impose their own values on somebody else through law. There can be no argument made that this rule is I'm anyway liberal.

Darts, snooker, pool etc etc. excuses excuses.

Happy? It doesn't bother me, and as long as it's not belittling women, I don't care.

The case in point, I suspect the woman dressed that way out of her own free will. Why does it bother you when a woman expresses her desire to dress a particular way?
