Meh... Waited, waited, waited... Could have been so much more impressive. Valuable drinking time lost, total let down.

Where will we got for Blibs photos now. What item will occupy 25 hours a day in his mind to find the perfect shot.

Cross rail?

That wasn't a laser show, it was the first phase of testing the new "dEarth Star" superlaser, the Shard is the focusing crystal. Don't be fooled by all this Olympics talk, they are actually building a hypermatter reactor.

I was in town to watch that, and was a little bit of a let down. That said, with all the other stuff going on at South Bank, the atmosphere was great. Rapidly becoming one of my favourite areas of town to spend time in and explore.

In all seriousness. Well done for keeping this thread going throughout the whole construction period, im. A worthy record.

So why have they had the opening ceremony when they haven't finished the top off?

On a Shardy sort of note, anyone else been to the Developing City exhibition? It's in the Walbrook Building in Cannon Street and is well worth a look. Completely free and charts the development of London through the ages with all sorts of maps and documents, and has a great model with all the existing and planned major developments, plus some interesting ideas for the future, including a whole new financial centre in Aldgate and a linear park made of islands in the Thames. Very enjoyable.

As viewed from the Regents Canal during a drunken stag weekend canal boat excursion. Mooring a 70ft barge is harder than parallel parking any car I've driven.
