AHAHAHAHA. Sweet jesus I can't breathe! 16 hours for that! There is a slim to no chance that can be seen to the naked eye from the ground
It was seen around the world for 16 hours, and is on today's newspapers and news web sites.
That is why it took them 16 hours to do it. It doesn't matter what they did at the end of the climb. The climb was the stunt, not the weedy flag.

(I was walking past, I had an hour to spare, £30 I didn't need, and so did the other suited-up guy in the lift with me, it transpired. Actually, the lifts are damn impressive...)
Damn impressive tad understatement, but that will doThink my tickets were £25 and frankly it's over-priced. View is tremendous as you'd expect...reminded me of the Eiffel Tower for breadth and depth of vision - but there the comparison ends.
Paris is so much more beautiful to look at look from that height.
Still, I'm a Londoner and proud of it so to see many-many places from that height that I'd only seen previously seen from either the ground or very fleetingly from an inbound flight was very nice.
The photos are a complete tourist rip-off though.
If the Eiffel Tower is a 10/10 experience then the Shard is.......7/10 by comparison but the rating is based solely on the view as obviously the Shard has far better facilities.
All IMHO.
Blib: Cancelled the restaurant as most of the reviews are very very poor. Went to ZsiZsi's in Covent Garden instead.

I always thought the Shard was taller than the Eiffel Tower, so how when I google is shows the Shard to be 310 metres, and the Eiffel Tower to be 324 metres, I am confused
Page 4 of this thread explains with a diagram but in essenceTo the roof:
Eiffel 300m
Shard 305m
With (cheating) Antenna:
Eiffel 324m
Shard 310m
Yes, the French stuck a long thin aerial on it.

Well, we could be all quibbly and differentiate between buildings, i.e. structures with habitable space, and transmitter masts.
Emley Moor has an "office" (link room) at the top though, which was intended to be manned 24 hours a day. That makes it a building. Gassing Station | News, Politics & Economics | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
