At least Portillo had the presence of mind to ask WTF the BBC was doing giving a platform to the Rt Honourable Member for Raqqa

More food for thought here:

Yes, that raised Portillo higher in my esteem. Much to admire about Portillo now his days as part of the Thatcher set-up are long since past. His constraint on last night's show was admirable. He obviously wanted to express his true feelings on the way the BBC gave that "member" additional airtime.

Hope it boosts the Tory vote in Scotland, but i'm not holding my breath frown
Refreshing & robust approach.
She was excellent. Came across as honest and not one to play party politics. The fact that the Labour lady was the complete opposite helped immensely.

She doesn't need to play party politics given she has zero chance of winning an election

I had lunch with Ruth Davidson last week (together with reps from local businesses) and she really is very good. When she was leaving a number of random people came up to her and said how much they liked both her and her approach even though they didn't class themselves as conservative voters.

Tonight's panel:

Francis Maude - Tory - Cabinet Office Minister

Andy Burnham - Labour - leadership candidate, former health minister and mascara wearer

Sally Bercow - Labour, failed to get elected as a councillor, married to the nominally Tory, but clearly Labour-leaning Speaker of the HoC

George Galloway, former Labour MP, former Respect MP, fraudster (alleged laugh), reality TV cat

Nick Ferrari - flakey right wing broadcaster.

Well, the carefully selected leftie audience will approve of the panel anyway. rolleyes

So carefully selected, this "member of the public" is actually Tory Councillor for Newton Mearns South, Jim Swift.....well I guess that's BBC "impartiality" for you..... hehe

Soubry is on again ffs! The last time she was on she said that the Paris attackers saw no distinction between a Christian, a Jew and a Muslim. That's right, they just randomly attacked a Kosher supermarket didn't they.

One of the previous times she just told a blatant lie about Royal Navy support ships NOT being built in South Korea.

She has a majority of a few hundred in Broxtowe - I can't wait to see her lose her seat in May.

A prize for the first member to spot Caroline Lucas hiding behind Natalie Bennett?

Thats not strictly true. I watched that episode, and she said that no Royal Navy ships were being built in Korea. She then got a bit flustered when people starting saying they were.
But the truth is that the Navy's warships are not built in Korea, the tankers are being built there. And thats for several VERY good reasons:

1. They will be delivered on time
2. They will be delivered on budget ( and to a cost far lower than if we had tried to build them in the UK)
3. They will be delivered in a useable state
4. They will be well built and reliable.

Korea is simply brilliant at building tankers. Placing the contract there was one of the rare occasions when MOD procurement made the right decision!

If Charles can slip Natalie Bennet some of the scotch from his flask she might be more relaxed
Actually that gives me an idea.............................

How many minutes into the programme will MS Bennet make a hash of it
Can't do it as a poll but my expectation is she will survive the first 2 questions and stumble badly on her third particularly if its on the economic recovery or NHS

In the sanitised world of pure protocol p-c PR-speak yes, that would be a gaffe, but it's also refreshing to see a PM speaking their mind.

Particularly CMD, a PR fluffer of note who normally runs scared of Guardian hacks ffs - as though they matter.

I don't have a problem with us building such things in Korea however given she was a Minister of State for Defence she gave the impression that she was either:

1 - a liar, or 2 - she just didn't know what she was talking about.

Nigel Farage: I think that was part of it but whether that is really going to have a massive effect in the Scottish elections I don’t know. Whether that is the motive or not, it is a massive strategic mistake to take away from this country’s premier naval city that has been building ships for nearly 6 centuries the ability to go on doing it. You know, we’re now building ships in Korea -

Anna Soubry: No we’re not -

NF: for the Royal Navy -

AS: No we’re not -

NF: What on Earth are we thinking of?

AS: That’s not true. That is absolutely, simply not true -

NF: So you’re not closing down?

AS: Forgive me, you said were building ships for our Royal Navy in Korea -

NF: Supply ships -

DD: There are replenishment ships -

AS: The majority, the big ships, the ones that are costing billions of pounds, we are building in this country -

NF: Are we building supply ships in Korea or not?

AS: Forgive me, I didn’t interrupt you when you were misleading -

NF: Are we building supply ships in Korea or not?

AS: I did not interrupt you, I am going to answer the question asked from the woman who asked it in the audience -

DD: No, hang on Anna Soubry, let’s clear this up. Are we having supply ships built in South Korea for the Royal Navy?

AS: I don’t know if we are having supply ships -

Yes, the transcript is on the money there. Farage insists that Royal Navy ships are being built in Korea. Soubry denies this, but gets flustered when Farage and DD switch it to supply ships as opposed to RN ships. She should have known better of course, but she is clearly not lieing. In fact she is quite correct about NFs assertion being wrong regarding RN ships being built in Korea.
